I have a 2007 cbr1000rr and keep toying with the idea of fitting a power commander and having it re mapped on a dyno. The bike has a akrapovic rear silencer and a standard air cleaner. Do you guys think this is a worth while modification or should I just keep the money and spend it on some other mods ??
I've got the exact same setup, and have asked myself the exact same question. Got to ask yourself... why? Are you chasing ultimate horsepower? (In which case, no brainer... get some better filters and a PC5 and get it mapped!) Or, like me, do you feel the bike is not quite as smooth now it has the Akra on it? Personally, I feel mine has lost torque low down (below 5000rpm), although it does feel a little quicker up top... but ultimately, its the slight loss of smoothness of acceleration that I notice most.
Would just like to get it a little smoother and gain a bit more horsepower in the process if possible. Spoke today to Track Electronics in Norwich where I live and they seem reasonable in the price of fitting and setting it up on a dyno.
Getting a bike mapped isn't all about chasing horsepower, it's about making sure your bike isn't running to lean or too rich which can happen when fitting aftermarket products, sure you might gain a few more bhp and smoother running, but I would rather make sure I'm not damaging the engine by it running to lean
