Well after the decision to keep it, now comes the rebuild process to get it absolutely perfect. firstly all the fairings are off, getting stripped down, any little repairs done then off for paint. Next up, water and oil emptied, and case off for touch up...its always had a little weep on it and i wondered what it was, turns out its cracked on the inside, i could repair it, or even use it as is, but ill get a 2nd hand one and keep it as an emergency spare. Next up comes the top end, its due valve clearances so thatll get done aswell as a set of AIS blocks, and when i find a shifter for right money ill get that wired in at same time. After that the next job is spacers, my dry wheels are originally for an 08 and i got my father in law to knock me some spacers up but they are slightly out, need to be 5mm longer to push the disc out to the middle of the caliper, get them done and my wet wheels powdercoated dayglo orange to match the new paint! Final thing is to bang fresh pads front & rear, fresh brake fluid then a dyno session and away we go! ill update the thread with uber pics tomorrow!
Bit more progress this weekend, bought a DA sander so the belly pan has been fillered & prepped for paint, as has the tank cover/seat unit and 2x seat units. also finished me smog blocks, i think ive done a dam good job! look as good as bought in ones and saves me thirty quid!
More progress this evening, smog blocks back in, new iridium race plugs, tidied the undertray up, took some Excess bracketry off and relocated the optimate lead, also took can off system to be sent to Pipe Werx to be copied. Whilst that's away ill be spraying the frame, subframe & swingarm. Still looking for a clutch side engine casing though! Pics tomorrow when it's daylight!
Loads of progress recently! Bodywork has gone off to be sprayed, my damper arrived courtesy of Repsol Rob, and i finished the frame & swingarm paint, fresh set of plugs, modded stock AIS blanks... Pics, as always! Frame & Swinger before... After... Damper & newly painted top yoke...
bit more this weekend, whilst its in bits i decided to brasso the exhaust up and all the chrome parts on the swingarm quick release sytem.
Well I spent yesterday evening bigging up Si's bike but... Well let's face it, his is a hairdresser's bike by comparison to that!
That looks ace. Don't let Giv near it, he'll be inspecting every nook and cranny, and showing you the error of your ways.
