The alarm fob on my key ring is wearing the finish off the top yoke so I've ordered a stick on yoke protector. Before I stick it on I want to make sure it's got as clean a bonding surface as possible. I walked down the road to Lloyds this morning and asked if they could sell me some Isopropyl Alcohol. They can't. Apparently you can use it during the manufacture of cocaine or something. I've found a place online and ordered a couple of bottles, but in the meantime I thought 'what about brake cleaner', which I've got on the shelf. Anybody out there know whether it'll be too aggressive on the existing finish or whether it might leave any residue that'll impede the bonding.
I use carb cleaner to clean oil of my wheels etc ( not plastics !!!) and I have had no problems so brake cleaner should be ok
I use brake cleaner every day in my job mate, It will be fine on your bike. You'll be amazed at what else you can use it for. ie cleaning oil from clothes etc
I use brake cleaner to get oil of the swing arm and engine from my chain and its fine . Spray on , wipe off , Jobs a good'n We sell Alcohol wipes for cleaning Ipad screens ready for sticking screen protectors on so you could try a computer parts supplier if you have one local
Thanks for the reassurance guys, that's what I'll do then. I've got a couple bottles of the isopropynol coming anyway, it's brilliant for cleaning the scanners and cameras.
Window cleaner as it's alcohol based Always use it before fitting stickers and stomp grips etc as it won't damage the paint
As the others have said brake or carb cleaner is great but if it's a painted surface or plastic I would us window cleaner
