With our IOM trip coming up next week, i was thinking of taking a puncture repair lube with part of small tool kit.... not having bought anything for quiet a few years was wondering if anyone could recommend a fav type..... often thought they messed tyres up inside if used...?

I bought a puncture repair kit from busters, includes canisters to fill the Tyre up etc and does not fill the Tyre with tons of gloop :) was about £15 on ebay I think and it fits in the tail unit with the tool kit and PCV :)

Is this the one that you locate the problem and plug it before you refill with CO2 ??

Thats the one :) can take a pic when I get home, or do you need a slime type treatment ? I have used on MTB before but never motorbike so unsure, just bought one after finding another two nails in the last tyre :(

    Hey,
I got a kit off busters too, used it on the rear tyre worked just fine, I didnt bother to swap the string type repair(meant to be called temp repair method) for the patch inside the tyre (permanent method).

I have repaired tyres on both cars and the one on the rear of my bike that i done another 3k miles before new tyre being fitted.
As long as you dont go gouging the hole at weird angles the tyre should be able to be repared by a patch inside (used to repair/fit car tyres in garages and unless close to edge always got a good repair.)

If you are looking at the fill it and forget it type (gloop deal), I would recommend Puncturesafe/Ultraseal kit works out about 20 quid for both bike tyres, but reason for recommending this type is its water based so if theres a problem or when it comes time to renew tyre the gloop washes off everything with a hose.
The types halfords sell are more a glue and is very messy to remove without some sort of thinners. Also most garages wont touch your wheels if they have the glue type inside.

Thanks mate but i know the type, just wanted to know if they are easy to use......and maybe better than the cannister repairs of spray in gunk etc.

Rob I dont know about the lil canisters as i have never used them i have always been close to compressor when i have needed air but they do look pretty small to blow up the likes of a 190 rear tyre dont they.

what type or kit were you thinking of getting the repair string/plug type or the gloop you put inside the wheels?

I used two on mine and it still needed air but one would get you moving until you found an airline.

I bought the string type think its the 3rd item on that busters link posted earlier. The kit is pretty simple to use and like a said av used it to great effect a few times now.

The likes of the gloop type are pretty much a fill it and forget about it and the once a nail or such is pulled out as long as there is air inside the tyre once the gloop hits the air it solidifies n seals the puncture.
The link below is the system i have used before and works well and again is water based so a hose takes care or cleanup when new tyre time comes round. Think muc off system is same water based but never used before.
I thought it might alter the feel of the handling if there is a liquid running about inside the wheel but i didnt feel any difference but if your neighbours are throwing loadsa nails out in your street thats the method i would suggest or start to play nice with the neighbours.:D

Hi Rob I had puncture safe installed in my CBR600 tyres, couldn't tell it was in there, made no difference to handling,no wobbles even at crazy speeds, seamly it has been tested for 155mph+ but what sold it for me is rather than having a blow out! You have a controlled deflation and it does keep tyre pressure retention too
It also it causes the tyre carcass to run cooler helping with tyre wear altho doesn't effect tyre tread warm up!

I can defo vouch for the stuff
