Hi, Just got the above heatstock stand for my 954, i already use an Abba stand so this will be used to get the front off the floor. Whilst building it i have noticed that the pin that goes into the bike does not sit exactly on the hole in the stand.... it has a hole in it so it can be secured by a screw you put in through the side, but when the pin sits in the hole, in the stand.... you can not put this screw into the pin... now if i put the screw in the pin then the whole weight of the front of the bike will be sitting on a small screw ! Or should i try and get some metal washers and pack it out so the screw lines up and is just there to secure the pin in place, not taking all the weight. Anybody else with a headstock stand find this happens with there's ? Overall the stand is very well built and for £40 (delivered), i can not really complain, but i also want to make sure its set up correctly.
Hi, I've not noticed the alignment issue with mine. I get what your describing though, when the pin is fully inserted in the stand the threaded hole of the pin doesn't line up with the hole in the stand and you have to lift the pin out for it line up. For me the screw is purely a retainer to stop the pin falling out if you fold the stand up and store it. Once it's upright or in the headstock there's now way it'll come out. I've had my bike up on the stand for 2 weeks now and its been fine. Getting tyres tomorrow and hopefully put the wheels back in this weekend. I'll re-check mine though. I'd get onto the suppliers and ask their advice though as this is only my opinion.
That is exactly it, the threaded hole of the pin does not line up if you let the pin sit in the hole, but i would think this is the best way, because when you lift it up a bit to ensure the screw can go in, the bike must be sitting on the screw thread..... even it it does break, the pin will only drop about 3mm ! So no danger but it is a bit odd. If i can get a few of the correct sized metal washers i think it will be fine and the bike's weight will then be all on the stand with only the screw ensuring its retained.
Yeh, that sounds alright if you still want the screw to fit, as you say just pack it out with some washers, your only increasing the height of the collar on the pin but decreasing the depth the pin sits in the stand, but not by much. So long as the pin is holding the weight of your bike, better than the screw. Either that and slot the hole in the stand and use a washer with the screw, may sound rough in some quarters as it's a new stand but always on option I guess. Not a major problem you have but I'd still give Q-Tech a call and let them know your issue as they've obviously a QA problem that needs sorting before they send anymore out. Maybe ask then to machine you another pin to suit your stand dimensions?
I've got the STFL headstock stand from Germany, the pin that goes into the hole in the bikes headstock, is secured in the stand by another beefy pin that goes through holes in the stand and the headstock pin. For it to be out of alignment it would mean one of the holes in the stand is out of alignment. Don't know if this helps.
This is quite common in Engineering terms for items manufactured at this price point. It's done so basically it allows for the loose tolerances inherent in the manufacturing process, as said, at this sort of price point, so they get less returns from peeps saying the 'screw dusna fit mate'. Allowing a little slack ensures this doesn't happen and I'm sure the screw can cope with the less than 100kg loading. Most stuff like this can be modded to make it work better if you're so inclined.
I know, i'm not annoyed by it, as said for the price it is better than i thought it would be ! I am searching for a metal washer with a 20mm internal diameter and about 1-1.5mm thick, this should do the job just fine and ensure the screw thread and the hole in the stand are in the same line, i guess the screw could hold the bikes front weight but i would rather have it sitting flush with metal on metal. If ya want it spot on Hudson ya best bet is to stop in at a local engineering shop/fabricators. They'll be able to waz you a perfectly sized piece off on the lathe from some round bar. Pull up on the Blade in full leathers and you'll get it for nowt!

Right then, that will be my problem from now on then ! I guess you get what you pay for, it is still good value but it would have been nice to see a small degree of customer service when i suggested if they could source maybe a new 13mm pin. Looks like the hunt for the right sized washer is well and truly on.
