Can someone just explain to me why people put quick shifters on their bikes cos I'm struggling to see the benefits. I never use my clutch to change gear on my bike, never have, on any of my bikes. My understanding is that they momentarily kill the ignition between gear changes to make the gear change quicker and smoother. I've never had an issue with gear changes. I want to put a pc5 on my rr4 and have looked into the quick shifters but fail to see why I need to spend that much more money.
If you are going for a quickshifter, go for an HM unit, rather than a cheaper Dynojet one. The HM actually kills the ignition and takes the load and strain off the transmission for a fraction, whereas the Dynojet ones merely kill the fuel, so there is still load and strain going on. I am due to put one on my racebike this January as I find that between gear changes (even clutchless ones) I still lose out valuable ground and potential places.
Has anyone any experience of this make quickshifter- Cordona PQ8 Combo ? I believe it is also enables seamless shifts and works on all six gears like the HM GP one. I think they may operate differently and not sure how the two products compare.
I've installed the Cordona as well as HM (dealer for HM), the Cordona is a great shifter no doubt and I was very impressed with the one I fitted to a street triple R, I still opt to sell the HM over Cordona as for me built in the UK with direct UK support etc speaks for it's self not that I had a problem with support on the Cordona, the GP Quickshifter has HMSS technology unlike others and IMO is light years ahead IMO. Do NOT confuse clutch less shifting with Quickshifters as no matter how good you think you are with clutch less up shifts it will never be as slick as a Quickshifter. And that dude in the BVG video is one cooool chap
Oh and don't be put off the HM plus just because the GP has been released, the HM plus is an excellent quick shifter and amazing value for money! Remember the HM has no moving parts, works in ether direction!, has programmable sensitivity and kill times, can be used on different bikes with another loom, Honda and Suzuki use the same loom, cuts the ignition system for clean kill times (all 8 injectors for BMW), full uk support! be sure to check what you get with others!
you dont have to,simple as that.it will make no difference to you riding on the road, but does help on track. i've used DJ,techtronics, bazzaz and now have the cordona PQ8 on my t/bike.seems to work fine, maybe a little smoother than the bazzaz, but stay away from the DJ shifters, unless you get the ignition module aswell.
I have a Translogic on my Blade and I love it. One can obviously make a good argument for not NEEDING one on the road but let's face it...who amongs us limits the nice things we put on our bike by assessing a need !!! Having said that, I find the QS fabulous for road riding and it makes a much nicer ride for a pillion too. No more head butting when changing up !! Oh!,,,,,,,,,,,,,,AND..........the noise it makes, especially if you have a Racefit exhaust is MINT !!!!
not necessarily,a poorly set up QS will do a lot of damage, and very quickly. also, with clutchless upshifts, your not exactly closing the throttle, just letting off very slightly.
Anyone tried these? SP SYNCROtech Quickshifter Honda CBR600RR, CBR1000RR, Complete System Racing | eBay
No one "needs" a Quickshifter on the road that's true but DAMM they are cool, let's face it no one needs a blade or any other superbike on the road! IF you ride fast bikes like the blade you NEED a shifter and that's that! If you have a Quickshifter and the next guy don't you DO have an advantage.
I have used a few now and the HM Plus is by far the best, I commute a lot and although I don't NEED one I would find it near impossible to live without now ! It just makes the ride smoother and easier Plus the sound is amazing when your popping through the gears very addictive lol
my reply is to the OP,he's asking why does he need one,it's simple, you dont (but then you dont need 160+bhp either). as for having an advantage over someone that doesn't,on the road? i dont think so.QS are there to gain those valuable 10th's of a second,on the road it doesn't come in to it.maybe i'm getting old and wise who knows.....(well maybe not wise )
Well said fellas. I have a HM Plus on my 06 and the before are after are worlds apart especially when you jump on a bike without one. I don't need one either, I am by far not the quickest out there but I am still going to get the new GP shifter.
Now we all know it's illegal to race on the road, and I'd not race any of my mates or exceed the speed limit, but as far as I know there is no limit on how quick you can get to 70mph
Thanks everyone for the information, very interesting. If I didn't have a bike with over 150 bhp I would get too bored. I think the only time I have not used the available bhp on a bike is on a naked and I just couldn't stand the wind blast.
