Quick question if anyone can help... Can i convert the standard set up to race pattern as i'm struggling to get my head around road shift and won't be able to get rearsets here for a few days? Little warning to anyone replying, i'm technically challenged so keep it simple if you don't mind, ta... Thanks in advance,
What is there to "get your head round" 1 down 5 up, do you want race shift on a road bike or track bike???
i went from road shift to race shift in 1 session. nothing to it. and helps an upshifts whilst cranked.
Try riding an old brittish bike Gears are upside down and on the other bloody side . Imagine your self coming into a bend , You go to apply a little back brake and you change up a gear instead lol
I've had race pattern on my road bikes since I started road racing on a Honda RS 125, it's much better but I find it easy using a conventional shift when I'm on the motorcross bike. It's an easy alteration on the older Blades but it looks like you're a bit tight on space on the CBR1000's. You need to turn the arm that pivots on the gear selector trough 180 degrees so the arm turns the selector the opposite way (if you know what I mean) If you post a pic of your rearset / selector rod I could highlight the bit I mean
I have SES rear sets which you can get a race shift adapter for Not sure that can be used with oe pegs but I have seen them for sale separately on EBay
Should be easy enough to change over. Definately find race shift a lot easier to use, mainly on track tho.
what bike have you got? The rr4 to rr7 cant be done without buying other bits because the clutch slave gets in the way.
On the rr8 its a simple case of spinning the change knuckle around 180 degrees, on the 04-07 you need aftermarket rearsets becuase the slave cylinder gets in the way.
Thanks mate, that's my first job then. I've really bloody struggled today, if i've said "up for up, down for down" to myself once, i've said it 50 bloody times! Thanks again.
www.performanceparts.co.uk do a race shift shifter that is made by "Gilles" that goes with OE pegs, howver they are all for back order and it may take a month or so.
Like said, race shift only takes goes up and down the box to get used to it. It's far better for the track and loads of better feel when bangin' through the gears.
Forgot to add to this, i managed to change the standard set up. I just needed to turn the arm through 180 degrees and remove the front sprocket cover, job's a good 'un...
sorry to raise an old thread from the dead but wanted to do the same thing for mine and found this, Honda CBR1000RR Rizoma Rearsets 2008 trying to find a uk dealer for them but they look like a good idea and you dont lose or have to mod the sprocket cover.
Look up seller 123pringle (I think) on eBay (his name is Fatdoozer on here but he rarely comes on here now) he'll do you a deal Rizoma gear. Got a pair of Track77 led indicators from him for a good price.
cheers I'll check that out.everytime I search for that unit it keeps bringing me back to usa sites.got stung real bad by the post office for a bike part the other week so will try to avoid usa sites now.
Even easier way is to drill a hole in the shift arm the opposite side of the pivot point to the standard point. That's what the HRP rearsets do, I'll post a pic of mine later.
