If I were to drop a 600cc engine into my K4 GSXR what classes would be left available to me to enter into? Or would I be better off leaving it as a 750, seeing some bargain engines going for approx £300 on ebay with relatively low road miles atm, could be a project over winter. Cheers YT
Hmmmm tricky that. I don't know how easily a 600 motor would fit in. Certainly if you raced it as a 750, you would be limiting yourself to what you can race against, with this being pretty much narrowed down to the Powerbikes (1000s). I would still personally sell it as it is (taking off what is easily removable and shiny and nice and replacing with stock bits if possible) and get a sorted 600.
It came with ohlins rear shock with remote adjuster, ktec front forks, ohlins steering damper, quickshifter, brembo master cylinder, braided lines and wavey discs, mtc full exhaust, pc3 and custom map, yoshi high rev ecu, dymag wheels, harris adjustable subframe, harris gauge cluster, renthal final drive kit. If i sold it with all this on id be ripping myself off but i dont have the stock bits to replace on it. Hence my conundrum.
Hmmmm, I can certainly see your predicament. With that little lot on it, I would start making enquiries into changing the engine over. However, there are no bits on there that a well sorted 600 wouldn't come with. The only bit that you don't tend to see on club race bikes are dymag wheels. Tricky one!
Maybe its worth just smartening it up over winter, new paint job. Ride it all year next year do plenty of trackdays then sell up and cut my losses for a 600 ready for a go at racing 2015.
That could be the best plan really. But don't rule out putting a 600 motor in, just get some dimensions and see how it fairs up. Have a look at Motoforum and see what 600s are available for sale. You may also get good money for yours by splitting it completely and selling it that way. Lots of lads doing that.
YT could you not just buy a 600 of same year and swap all the trick bits off the 750 onto the 600 and put all the stock bits off the 600 on the 750 and flog it that way? The 600 and 750 are pretty much same bike except the engine and increased spring rates in the forks and shock to cope with the increased power! Oh and sprockets are different tooth sizes as well. A 600 engine should just plonk straight in tho.
Precisely my thoughts shiny Either get a 600 K4/5 with decent engine and frame etc. and transfer the bits and bobs, or buy a 600 engine and drop it in the 750 bike. Or just say fuck it sell the trackbike and take my blade in the thou class haha!!
