Took em off today, ignored the advice to remove battery tray etc etc and went down the simple path of removing one side of the subframe, I chose the 'gear shift' side as the fasteners were (IMO) easier to access, 'brake side' wasn't fully removed just eased out to allow Allen key access for the hanger - took about 45mins strip down to re-assembly ! Better than the 2 hours plus people talk about when taking the battery tray out etc...
easy once ya no the bike i can have all fairing off bar nose cone! rear seat fairing and tank off in 20 mins now
Well I'm learning ! I still can't believe just how many fasteners Honda use - and lots of them 'concealed' !!!
Yur not wrong .. I think Honda don't want you to touch anything so they have made everything us modders usually change really difficult to do Rear footpegs Indicator relay Air filter Fuel line Fairing
Bladebhoy - no pitfalls, I took off the seat and rear cowl and then removed the tail cover 4 bolts and it slides back out of tags before it can be lifted off, once this is off you can undo the 4 rear screws for the undertray/no plate hanger assy (under the natural sort of pillion grab area - if that makes sense), this then gets you access to the link bolt at the rear of the subframe as well as the 2 bolts holding a metal bracket/stiffener between the subframe (to properly access these 2 I dremelled a part of the battery tray just above a screw that holds the rear of the under tray in place - don't forget I only undid the lhs fasteners). Undo the rear tank mount on lhs and the 2 obvious sub frame to frame bolts and then the whole of the lhs side frame can be removed ! I then re-mounted the subframe side so that the battery tray had some support - then eased the rhs subframe enough to get an Allen key to the 2 hanger bolts... Re assemble, the only spare bits were pillion pegs and 4 hanger bolts - so all worked fine ! Hope this makes sense eeek
