Hi guys, Just wondering if the ohlins rear shock from a 2014-2016 sp would be a big upgrade for my 2015 blade or would i be better getting a proper ohlins rear shock with height adjustment?
Not an expert but I'd be wary of a factory fitted Ohlins simply because I'd wonder if Honda have bought them to their own (cheaper) specification. I have a new rear shock on my longterm wishlist, think I'd go for a K-Tech if I ever had the money. They're not cheap though, you'll pay about £950 for the DDS Lite.
This is why i was asking what the sp ohlins are like as the ohlins ttx you would get from ohlins has height adjustment at bottom of it so presumed the sp one might be made to a budget. Been to local ohlins place near me today and they have a ohlins shock for my blade but its 850 quid. Also asked what upgrades for forks they do and apparently theyve stopped doing valve kits for my blade and just do nix cartride things at 1050 i think he said
Going back to the original question - much will depend on mileage and what you use the bike for. I have the SP shock on my 14 bike, but it has done 40k miles, so the original shock was very tired - but it does make a big difference - it would be more if I did the front as well. I had the full Ohlins front and rear on my 04 blade after 30k miles, and that was night and day better than anything else I ever tried.
ive just put a k tech pro and k tech cartridge kit in my 08 blade, made a hugh difference to the bike. definatly go for the external pre load adjuster though as once its in the bike you cant adjust it.
Do they do a valve kit as spoke to kais and they said they didnt. Only option is a k tech rds cartridge at 950 plus fitting
Yea its crap. Talking to kais guy said it sounds like you are finding limit of standard bpf. Said std shock is good, its forks that are the big improvement but i cant seem to find valve kits for it. Just seems to be cartridge kits at like £1000 upwards ffs
I spoke to the k tech rep who visits the ktm dealer I worked in about my rr4 . I have a wp cartridge kit in the front but he said give him a standard rear he will fit a piston kit from an 08 onwards and set up with fresh spring . said for road and track days that would be plenty enough .
I had the K Tech front valve kit and springs fitted to a 2009 CBR, an oil service was due so this was by far the best performance per pound upgrade, combined with 55 profile tires, a 3-4mm drop on the front feels crisp, compliant and plush.
