Hey guys can anyone help? I've got a rental srs gold chain and socket kit on my bike at the mo but wanted to put a larger rear sprocket on maybe a +2 tooth, but have just checked my chain and its on the needs replacing line, I've only had this kit on for 6 months, and don't want to buy a new chain. Do you think it will be ok? Cheers.
Hi if your going to go plus 2 on the rear , you really need an extra 2 links on the chain , it with shove the rear wheel further back and make the bike more stable , I go to the TT as a race bike mechanic and this is how all the racers prefer the bike to be setup
If its only been on six months and you ain't done too many miles it'll be ok IMO . whenever I've changed I do chain and sprockets.
I'm not doubting you at all mate, but I have the stock chain with +2 rear setup and at road speeds the bike is rock solid (I mean no twitches at all, ever). May be a different story at TT speeds though
By lengthing the wheel base , which is basically what your doing by putting a chain with an extra couple of links , it makes the bike more stable by basically making the bike a lot less wheelie prone under extreme acceleration , If you look at the bikes that do the TT most of them have the rear wheel as far back as you can get it
I agree with JM1 I have +2 with std chain and at 160 + solid as a rock, obviously on track ! And never had any probs on the road either 2 links would give the hugger a little more clearance though as its tight with little OE one ^^^^^^^^^^^ I like wheelies so will keep it as it is lol
Hi mate , all i am trying to do is pass information i have gained along the way to members of this forum , we all strive to make our bikes the best we can within our budgets and abilates , i learn things every day from here , and have took on board a few tips my self and passed them on to others
It has cost me lots of money too lol , which is probably fair to say about most of us , good fun though
Did you say you've increased the rear sprocket? In standard you can wheelie it in 1st and 2nd no effort... In 3rd a struggle, but with 2 extra it should be child's play... Maybe you ain't trying hard enough??
If your objective is to do wheelies, then yes of course a 1000cc bike will let you do that, but this bike does not wheelie naturally IMO. My standard position on the bike also does not encourage wheelies. All I am saying is that this is a naturally very stable bike.
My 06 blade is hard to keep the front wheel on the road with standard gearing ! Bloody easy to wheelie in 1st 2nd an 3rd off the throttle !
