Rear sprocket.

    Hi, I am thinking of putting this Renthal sprocket on at the next tyre change.

    My questions are............................1) Is this a good make?
    2) It is a 42 tooth, so a straight forward swop?
    3) Will it last for 10,000 miles say?
    4) Will the bike feel any difference?

    Hi Greatguy, firstly you shouldn't notice any difference unless the current sprocket is wrecked, secondly 10,000 miles depends on how you ride. You should also note that its not good practice to just change a sprocket, the chain and engine sprocket should also be changed. Renthal is reasonably good quality though.

    Renthal Sprockets are amongst the best, better even than OEM gear.

    Can't remember what number of teeth are standard but same size or 1 or 2 bigger will all fit without chain Mods.

    A lot of peeps go up 2 teeth on the rear (and even down a tooth on the front sprock) for better acceleration and power wheelies in 2nd & 3rd off the throttle if that's ya bag!

    Standard is 16 F 42 R

    I think I heard somewhere that renthals are heavier than OEM

    In that the alloy super light one? If so won't do 10,000 miles but is very light I have one with 520 chain conversion. Being alloy not steel does wear quicker.

    Depends what your after, if longevity I'd go for OEM or supersprox. As said, don't think you'll get 10k from that but does depend massively on riding style.

    I've gone up one tooth at the rear, I personally wouldn't change just the rear sprocket in isolation unless the front sprocket and chain were recently changed.

    I have talon gold sprocket on rear +2 Sun star front sprocket -1 and DID chain, all work well together, but you need to change them all at or near the time for even wear :)
    Not sure what mileage you will get but that will depend on riding style and chain maintenance :)

    This looks like the hard anodised rental sprocket?! If it is, it is extremely light and I have had a few on my last blade. Easily lasted 10,000 but as said does depend on driving style!

    If you want the best of both world, light and strong, you have to buy the best steel sprocket ....

    And it's the AFAM , the Superlite RS7 steel sprocket , light like alloy but a lot more strong. And very beautiful piece, i have the 42 43 and 44 in 525 for my BST and they re perfect.

    I went down a tooth at the front sprocket ,did not bother changing anything else as not high mileage and standard rear does not look worn,made a difference in acceleration and lifts the front wheel more readily,have previously used rental sprockets on my gixer and they were good as there heat treated they have a long life span,that's my tuppence worth hope it help,s ya!

    GGuy, I have got Renthal at my rear (and at the front as far I remember).
    To answer you doubts: 1) Yes, it is a very good make. 2) Yes, 42 is like-for-like swap, 3) If you use chain lube and adjust the chain, it will definitely last 10k miles 4) In a like-for-like swap? No difference.
    Of course, you will have to change the whole drive, both sprockets and chain. Do consider 2+ teeth in the back, you will notice the difference ;) You might also consider 520 conversion.
