Budget £500 but must have a a A-type bayonet mount so I can use the lenses from my Konica Minolta Dynax 5D
I don't know if you can get an adaptor for Nikon to allow the use of A-Type bayonets, but I would look at going for a Nikon D300 or a used D2H. Try Mifsuds Photographic Ltd, as there have been superb with me. a family run business and great prices. Have a look at: Mifsuds Photographic Ltd Digital Cameras & Accessories If you like the look of the D2H, don't be put off by the low megapixels (4). It is a superb pro camera that is very quick and when new cost £2800 and can now be bought for about £400. I had one and loved it and wish I still had it, but I had an offer for a Nikon D2XS that was just too good to ignore. Any Nikon questions, give me a shout.
cheers looking at the mo was suggested a Sony NEX 5 with a adapter? unsure of the tiny digital SLR and would my lenses fit?
BUMP ANYONE !! LOOKING AT Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX1 and get a Kipon Minolta Sony ALPHA AF MA MAF Lens to Micro 4/3 Adapter so I can use my lenses I have thoughts suggestions?
Are the lenses you've got worth messing about with mix and matching systems. The problem being that whatever you end up with will be a jack of trades. If not look at an integrated system as a straight replacement like the Lumix one or the more usual Canon or Nikon. If its just a focal length range you're after in the choice of your lenses take a look at superzoom bridge cameras as an alternative. It's a difficult thing to advise on without an idea of what you want to end up with Matt. I've been out of selling cameras now for about 10 years which is a lifetime in this business and I dealt more with Canon and Nikon then as a matter of course.
I have about 4 very good lenses from a large zoom to a prime lense for my old Konica SLR. I know what a pain they are to carry so was thinking a good compact with an adaptor would be ideal for my use. I don't want to spend loads of a new camera then have to buy more lenses, I'm no pro photographer so having a jack of all trades may suit me fine. just wanted more experiences views on my suggestion
The Lumix range is extremely good. Jeanette's got one that I recently repaired rather than replaced after the screen got damaged, because it was worth it. I however, and it is purely a personal thing, really cannot get on with cameras without viewfinders. Even the best LCD panel can get caught out in direct sunlight, end of. Plus, there is a comfort thing based on bracing the camera against your body to shoot. Like I said though, that's personal and doesn't irritate everyone the same way it does me. I know you used to be able to get an EVF as an optional extra for Panasonic compacts. I don't know if you can for this model. It looks, spec wise, very similar to the G3, which comes with the EVF built in. This would be my choice if I was in this market, looking at this range based on my comments above. Other than that, I'd certainly pick the Panasonic over the Sony, Olympus and Samsung models of similar type due to my experience with them in the past. I've always used Panasonic video cameras both when I was doing it for a living and for my own use and a digital camera has more in common with a video camera than a film one which is why the likes of Panasonic and Fuji have found it so easy to be major players up against Nikon and Canon as they are adapting technology they've been perfecting for years in their TV camera technology.
cheers for the feedback Ken LUMIX Digital Cameras - LUMIX G Compact System Cameras - DMC-GX1 - Overview - Panasonic UK & Ireland was recommended to me and would replace my LUMIX TZ10
Have a look at these guys. They've become very highly respected in our business for their reviews. Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX1 Review: Digital Photography Review
I use a Lumix GH2, which I think is brilliant although I am definitely a hobbyist not a pro photographer! I went for Micro-4/3 over full DSLR as I preferred the slightly smaller body size so I can take it on the bike for touring and motorsports, and I had the Lumix TZn series compacts before so was used to the menu and basic functions. Features-wise, the Lumix Gxx range are superb and VERY easy to use even from a beginner level. The Full HD video recording is excellent too. I know Canon and Nikon are the big players in the DSLR space, but if you prefer a more handle-able camera then the Pannys are well worth a look, imo.
OK going for the Panasonic BX1 this week, Other that E bay, Jessops where do people look for buying a new camera? Any recommended places?
I have had great experiences with: Mifsuds Photographic Ltd Great family run business who know their stuff and are as cheap as anywhere.
We deal with Matthew Mifsud too. Just down the road from us. Known him for years, he's a top bloke, and his staff'll see you right. Jessops will always price match. They're happy to sell at a loss just so someone else loses a sale, which is why HSBC owns them now. They almost single handedly destroyed the retail camera market with their marketing strategy and are the reason why we got out of the camera business. We pride ourselves on our support but if you're making nothing on the sale, you're just giving wisdom away gratis. Despite what they say, goodwill isn't without a cost. You might pay a bit more to Mifsuds, but you can pick up a phone and speak to a specialist who'll know his stuff, not some pimple who's waiting for a chance to use his expensive degree as a college technician somewhere, preferably the college he earned the degree from, so he doesn't have to learn where the toilets are all over again.
I particularly like the FN FAL Self Loading Rifle. There are lots out there though! you were talking about rifles right????
When you absolutely, positively have to kill every last motherfcuker in the building, you cannot beat a long gun and a long round.
I bought my Nikon P-7000 from these guys, Onestop Digital But all my SLR gear has been bought from a friend at London Camera Exchange. Their site is poor, but service has been top class. I was looking for a 300/f4 prime a few years ago and the only new one I could find that wasn't a silly price was at LCE.
