i may sound like an anorak law abiding geek here, but what is the legality of having or not having a reflector on the rear wen adding a tail tidy?
I was thinking of sticking one of these on my numberplate when mot time comes Round Self Adhesive 20 mm Number Plate Reflector For Motorcycles / Bike MOTs MOT | eBay
The requirement of a red reflector always puzzles me, when you've got a bloody great reflective rear number plate what's the point of a red disc the size of a 20p?
That’s interesting. The dealer put one on the legal size plate after they fitted the tail tidy when I purchased the bike so I just thought it was a legal requirement so fitted a small one on my under size plate when I changed it. I don’t need a mot till 2014, assuming I keep it that long. I had heard you need to pop the legal size plate back on or it might get failed. Whilst on the subject of Mot's what the position regarding exhaust baffles, I took the baffle out of my akro can, will I need to re fit it come mot time.
All depends on the tester mate, I have had no baffle and a small plate for last 9 years I have used a few different testers and only had to have 1 re-test. Most testers are bikers themselves do will pass things as long as they are not dangerous
Statutory reflectors Mopeds and motor bicycles require one unobscured red reflector which is aligned to the vehicles longitudinal centre line and is positioned to reflect squarely to the rear. If the motorcycle is fitted with a side car the side car will also require a reflector fitted towards the nearside and positioned to reflect squarely to the rear.
