Hi Guys, the reg/rec on my blade rr5 has............wait for it............decided to stop working. I can hear all your gasps of shock from hear. Any way what do you guys recomend as a replacement, another super dooper realiable Honda part or are ther better or cheaper realiable options out there. Cheers in advance!
06/07 were changed so should be more reliable, when mine went(05 as well) I got a new stator and rectifier with gasket off E-bay from a company in Germany for around £120, not genuine obviously (I didn't have to sell a kidney to buy it). No fitment issues, slipped straight in fired her up no problems since. I'll find the link if you want me to.
Don't sposse you got the link bro? I'm having charging issue I'm in the middle of identifying and will likely need a new stator I reckon. Anyone else have any recommendations to a decent non OEM part? Honda are asking £360 for the stator alone which is mental. Danny
This is what I got, no problems since fitting. Nice quick easy job. I changed the lot just to be safe. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Alternato...311027?hash=item5693f23333:g:61QAAOSw~oFXLkix
I fitted about a year ago, done about 3000 miles since. I had a couple of burnt coils, but changed the reg/rec as well. Seemed silly not to at that price.
Nice one. I've bought it now and await delivery. Thanks for pointing out the link to me buddy and appreciate the positive review of it. I'm always wary ofor buying cheaper stuff on eBay. Even if this doesn't fix the issue... at least it's not £360 from honda for a stator
In my experience the Honda reg/rec starts giving up when there is another electrical problem with the bike and it is not a quality issue with the unit itself. Whether it is a burnt stator, bad grounds, oxidized electrical connectors or a combination it puts extra strain on the rectifier and then they start overheating and going bad. My old 97 blade still charges perfectly and never had an issue, but I do make sure the wiring and plugs are good. I generally treat my batteries like shit (rare riding, no trickle chargers during winter, etc.) and they still last 5+ years. That being said, I have no experience with a RR5 electricals, so they may very well have a quality issue.
Anybody relocated theirs . Mine spends a lot of time commuting and gets dam hot. Its failed and now works again after contact clean . Im thinking about attaching it under clock mount and extending the loom.
Careful where you mount it, they use contact with a large metal area as an heat sink, otherwise they will fry. Just buy a decent upgrade, bypass the crappy wiring and wire it direct to the battery pos and neg, with an in-line fuse on the positive, won’t have an RR issues after that.
