Hello all, (2009 track bike) I've bought a PipeWerx slip-on and de-cat link pipe because the low slung Akra fouls on race fairings. Given I am now de-catting; the internet is full of advice saying it needs a remap or the world will end! Does anyone have hands on experience of this? A dyno printout of how the de-cat affected the AFR? Looking for experience, not hearsay please. Regards,
On my 2007 had a Yoshi end can, then I added US headers (no cat). As was a project bike hadn't ridden before I'd added headers so couldn't do a direct comparison - but rode really well with the mods. Didn't appear to be any flat spots, didn't run hot. After about a year of running it around I did get it mapped though at Dave Wood Racing - just because I wanted it looked at by experts. Wouldn't say it was massively night and day noticeable difference as felt it ran well anyway, but think it gave about 10bhp increase, was noticeably different engine tone (deeper and more growly, with few more pops and bangs!), and is smoother and pulls so well - do enjoy riding this bike even though has 50k miles on the clock. Would say if you can afford it, do it.
Thanks for your account @Lock I think I will go for it, but I need to find a good place in the North who do more than just AFR changes.
Running lean is bad for the engine. If you download the power commander software you can check maps people had built and see how much fuel is added. It will be quite a lot in some places.
I fitted a Racefit on a 2013 this ran lean and had flat spots, I have since modified with the AIT (air intake temp) mod to up the fuelling, this has stopped the hunting and runs a lot better but still has a bit of a flat spot at 3K, I think this will need an ECU reprogram as the ECU's are programmed to pass emissions at about 3K, and I am a steady rider no 11k WOT for me I refitted the std exhaust last year to compare but was not a good enough ride improvement to keep it on
