I need to nip up my head bearings but I have a GPR steering damper and I cannot get the top nut off. There's so little play between the GPR mount and the nut that I cannot get a socket on there, nor can I get a spanner or adjustables......who's cleverer than me and has a sensible solution.

I've got Anglesey on Friday so I don't have much time.

    See attached picture.

Looks like the only way is a thinner socket.
    Sorry to be obvious

Unless you want to grind down the walls of the one your using. Just bare in mind this will weaken the socket if you go to thin.

Yea that's pretty much where I got to. I've just spend about 30 minutes grinding the life out of a poor socket, trying to leave as much meat on it as possible.

Still more to go, had to stop for coffee and to let my hand un-cramp.

Doesn’t help but how did they tighten it in the first place after fitting the bracket?

Oh, it’s a bugger when you don’t have the right tool :(

Would you be able to at least get it moving slightly with a hammer and drift?

I got there in the end. I just had to spend a good amount of time with the angle grinder thinning out the wall of the socket. I see GPR have modified the bracket on newer units to avoid this issue.

A bit late now but if GPR sold this as an upgrade/add-on did the kit come with a dedicated socket? Worth asking them?

Ohh yea I've read there's some expensive socket you can buy from them. But that's no good when your in the garage getting stuck in and they are in the states. You know what it's like, you want to start a job, and finish it.
