Hello i have a question hope someone can help me out. I have a 04 cbr1000 and i talkt to my tuner what we can do with the bike if we can flash the ecu or that i have to buy all the boxes from powercommander to tune the bike. He said he can flash the 2006 ecu but not the 2004. Does sombody know if i can only put a 2006 ecu in the bike or do.i need more like key or wireharness or will it not work ad all.. Hope someone knows. Thanx mike
The 2006 ECU is a different unit modified from the 2004 as the 2006 bike had a higher redline in company with other engine refinements - which you might be aware of. This would account for your tuner being able to flash the 2006 but not the 2004. Logic suggests that a straight swap would not work. There MIGHT be pin/connector differences. I think the only way of getting a definitive answer is to physically compare (if possible) both the 2004 and 2006 ECUs side by side before even venturing any further. As you suggest, the wiring harness might well be a stumbling point.
