I've just signed up for the Rider Performance Safety Day at Castle Coombe Circuit on Tuesday 13th May 2014, £99. Anyone else going?
Have you checked to make sure they are happy with your R77? I know they are particularly sensitive on noise and for normal track days and the like the R77 is a no no.
This was why I previously did a thread asking about db levels gor the r77. The comments received said it was about 101 / 102 dbs. The limit at Castle Coombe is 105.
Would like to but my bike is to noisy In our experience the following machines may NOT pass our strict limits: Any make & model of bike with short type side silencers Ducati 748/749/916/996/998/999, fitted with Termignoni open pipes (but any of the above with standard pipes SHOULD pass) Ducati 1098R Ducati 1198 Ducati Multistrada (2011) Ducati Panigale - all models Honda CBR1000RR - 2008 model and 2010 modelon Kawasaki ZX10 - 2009 and 2010 model KTM RC8 Suzuki GSXR600 K6 Suzuki GSXR600 K7 Suzuki GSXR 750 K6 Suzuki GSXR 750 K7 Suzuki GSXR1000 K6 - 2006 model with standard exhaust Suzuki GSXR1000 K7 Suzuki GSXR1000 K8 Triumph 675 - 2009 model (short type side can) Yamaha R6 - 2006 model Yamaha R6 - 2008 model (short type side can) Yamaha R6 - 2009 model (short type side can) Yamaha R1 - 2008 and 2009 model Castle Combe Track Days - Bike Information
This is on another thread on here they do the static test at 9k revs so it will probably fail the noise test most tracks do it at 5500k Revs and your Yoshi would be about 101 but not hear .Worth doing a noise test before the day if you can I bet it catches out a few by putting 105db but it then says at 3/4 max revs which I am told is 9k revs. They should make it clear by putting what revs it's tested at and what most track test them at so it's easier to understand . The noise limit for the day is 105 db(A), which is measured at ½ metre from the exhaust outlet at ¾ maximum revs. It is the rider’s responsibility to ensure that their machine is within this limit. All machines are sound tested prior to going out on the circuit. In the event of a machine failing the sound check, then the rider will be entitled to a 75% refund. If you are unsure if your bike will get through the noise test (i.e. if it is fitted with an after market exhaust system), then you can always come over to get the bike noise tested prior to booking a place.
Thanks Jase, looks like I'll be cancelling tomorrow then and hopefully getting a refund. Does this mean I won't be able to do any track days with the r77 fitted?
The only problem tracks you will get are low DB days at some tracks not many or Mallory and here. Most other tracks Oulton,Cadwell, brands,Snetterton just to name a few you will be fine with your Yoshi. Its the same exhaust as mine and I get 101db.
Did I read............refund ?? lol.....................I doubt it pal......... a credit more like ..............anyhow extend your existing baffle and add some wadding....... you ll get it down im sure.... did it to my akro on a particular low 95db day at Mallory......... was fine for the day.

Wadding is an option it's making sure it stays in many times on track I have been behind riders and the wadding is firing out of the exhaust . so eventually you will get black flagged by the ride past noise test.
Worth swinging by to have it tested. Mate and I went on the Rider Performance Safety Day, and they weren't sure about his Ducati 1098S with Termi pipes. He swung by a month before the day and they tested it, said strictly speaking they wouldn't let him on, but as it was the Rider Performance Safety Day, and not a full-on track day, they turned a blind eye. Funny really, as one of the on-track helpers/guides had an old Ducati (749?!?) and it had a full race system and sounded like Thor with chronic bowel problems!!!
How would you go about adding extra wadding Or should I put the original silencer back on or just forget the whole thing.
If you go to Any track on a track day and ask the noise testers kindly to test your bike they will something I did when I first started going to oulton park so at least you know for sure. If I have chance on Wednesday as I am at oulton park I will ask them to test my bike at 9k revs as I am curious to what it will be and will post the results .
Thanks Jase. I was really looking forward to going and then getting the track day bug but its turned into a nightmare aleady
If you go on ebay you can get DB killers or wadding . To put wadding in You remove the baffle which on the Yoshi is a pain to get the small screw out without dropping it in the exhaust so probably be easier to remove the Yoshi You then wrap the baffle with the wadding if unsure I would get in contact with a motorbike garage near you that do mots as they could do the work for you or advise you on it plus they might be able to noise test it as well. If you can get a db killer it's not going to fall out during the day like wadding could plus it's a quick fix to your problem but still get it noise tested at a track or mot garage plus they only about £20 just not sure if they do one for a Yoshi
I will look into it, there's a motorbike garage next to where I work. Thanks again Jase you have been a real help. Let me know results of 9k test later in week.
Chicken I've just come from a road safety evening with the instructors, theres about 20 of us going on the 13th we asked about noise levels as a couple of the guys have gixers with no baffles, his reply was "it's a road safety day you won't be revving the tits off your bikes, unless your bike sounds like an f16 you'll be fine" though he did recommend the baffles go back in
Emma, the very very nice lady at Castle Coombe Circuit has today given me a FULL refund. BIG THANKS Emma!!!
