Sadly on a ride out today with a few boy's from here we witnessed the aftermath of this horrific accident, i can't help but feel sorry for him, his family and those effected... Be safe boys.. UPDATE: Motorcyclist dies after collision on A684 (From The Westmorland Gazette)
Its interesting to try and understand what causes these accidents. Is it that the bikers are just getting the bikes out from winter break, and that they are a bit rusty and not in tune with the bike/road etc? Or is it that because of the winter break, that car drivers are not used to seeing many bikes on the road, and therefore not looking out for them? We've all seen that near miss, and some of us (me included) has been involved in a accident on the road that wasn't our fault! Either way, keep it safe out there guys/girls........
I think it's a combination of all your Points Gary, I do wish car drivers would look more, I pass many that are ringing/texting, reading a book, setting up sat navs, getting carried away with the music and using laptops and palmtops, its crazy Even had a car come at me the wrong way on a one-way street with the driver pointing out some local point of interest to his passenger
This always happens - its riders who have lost skill over winter and sadly all 3 involve innocent 3rd parties with terrible results. The roads are also in a poor condition but head on's are often running wide on corners as there is normally space to fit a bike between 2 cars if overtake close (as long as biker keeps his cool and pins the throttle).
That's exactly how I saw it today Al and really felt for the driver he must have traumatised. Not a nice sight when you ride past and you see an unrecognisable bike and a body covered with a blanket!
Down near Hawick yesterday I was coming round a sharp left hander in the car only to be met by a bike on my side of the road. And even as he managed to avoid hitting me he was still on my side of the white line. If I was a truck or bus that guy was a goner. Rip to all that have passed, but let's at least try and ride safe.
All tragic cases, many avoidable. Apportioning blame does not bring anyone back, but in the last few weeks on my commute the standard of riding I am seeing on a daily basis has crashed, lots of people returning to the roads, out of touch and a risk to themselves. Stay safe out there guys and girls.
+1 on this given that for me the season never stops come rain or shine I have seen a few squiddy's on the roads this weeks track suits, trainers etc..all well and good going fast on your SRAD in a straight line but what about the corners? Feel sorry for the people involved hope they rest in peace.
Very sad news, a fatal crash near me involving a 65 year old on a Yamaha and an Audi Q3 happened as I was doing some advanced training, I didn't witness the accident but saw the road all blocked off and the air ambulance. As I was doing some twisty's at a reasonable speed a few looneys passed me at trackday speeds and on the same side of the road as me, good job my mirrors were being used well I suppose.
Not good news and very sad, another so I was told at B-Hill on Sunday? Cant find anything in the news but my mate was saying the road was closed etc.
My work mate lost his mum and his step dad is critical after an incident in North Yorkshire on Sunday.
