So after 3 years, I decided to put a shutter in my small garage...

Went on the net and found it..was electric and delivery within 5 days for a custom size..

After I got it installed..realised, the manual wind down only works from inside the garage..so if the motor fails I'm pretty ******!

Call up the place I got it from, they said I never requested for a manual external override..! @ £120!!

How stupid for a electric garage not to have a manual over ride on the outside..

How am I meant to open it when and if the motor fails?

Normally you'd have a rear entrance door you can acces from the garden etc into the garage to get to it, if not you'd get the override....

Can't you access your garage from the other side of the alley? ;)

Ps - in London where space is a fecker. That's an awesome idea to secure the bike mate

Yeah my new one's the same as Jimbo says the door company said I didn't need an external over ride because I had the back door.

What you need to do is knock out the bricks at the other end of the garage and put another shutter in there. No need to get the manual override because you'll have two :D

Is it a direct drive from a gearbox or chain with sprocket reduction. Anyway the one I had, had a shear pin in case it got stuck. maybe you could try to pull it out and see if you can lift the door by hand if the drive is disconnected, and someone crawl in. If that works a wire to the house from the pin (through the wall) in emergency pull the pin.

You may want to think about getting the holes (left and right) blocked off to make it more secure. A trolley jack in there would have your door off in seconds.
