    Hi Folks,

Considering going to Europe next year with some mates. starting to plan things out, therefore can anyone suggest some good routes staying away from Motorways and enjoying some good roads. Some members of our group are new to the bike world, so don't want to much challenging routes, so your routes and idea would be very welcomed.

My experience of Germany for what it's worth, is if your mates are not seasoned riders be very careful on the Motorways/ Autobahns. the Germans travel at full speed in any car be it a Polo or R8, (and there's lots of fast cars) so overtaking has to be carefully done, cars coming from way back arrive quickly! But saying that I found the Germans quite law abiding and predictable while driving, the skill level is quite high. I can't give much help with routes as I've only blasted through on the way to somewhere..... CZ is really nice if you get that far, cheap and good roads.

Holland is flat as a pancake...use the motorways to get to Germany. Then, it's game on as the roads to Black Forest are fabulous.

We've been down a few times Jim, bit if you want a reasonably simple non motorway route then I'd suggest you go via the hull ferry to zeebrugge, (leaves a bit later than the Rotterdam one so you have an extra hour to make it there).

The top of Western Europe is pretty boring no matter where you start until you get inland a bit, so use the main roads to get south of Brussels, then onto smaller roads to Charleroi, Charleville Meziers and onto Metz. That's a days riding for those not used to hammering out big miles, you get to Metz around 5pm, can recommend the hotel Cecil or the Escurial.

From Metz head to Hagenau and the France Germany border, using the D999 or the D603, cross using the free ferry at Rhinau or just go through Strasbourg, get to Baden Baden and that's you at the top of the B500.

Bottom of that is the town of Freudenstadt, couple of nice hotels in the marktplatz and a bar/brewery that serves excellent food and turns into a nightclub by putting logs under the dining tables and making them higher and taking all the seats away!

Roads from Trier are good - so motorway to there would be my suggestion, then down to Baden Baden that way - great options for you - Newcastle ferry is prob. best bet for you.
