    Hi All,

Having made the commitment to get back on the saddle after a 5 year break I opted for a fireblade 1000rr5 Repsol colours. Previously owner a 600cc ninja so this is my first 1 litre bike.

I am not the type of person to tinker with things if they are working well, however seeing so many mods on this forum I dont think i will be able to resist.

However, I want to hit the sweet spot with the current set up first. First up I noticed the speedo was showing the wrong reading. I have looked around and found that the rear wheel has a 42 tooth super sprocket. My lack of experience in tinkering means i haven't opened the front to see what is on the front or if the chain has been changed from 530 to 520. I have purchased a speedo healer and currently in the process of trying to get it to read correctly.

The previous owner had a K&N filters installed, a power commander and a Akrapovic exhaust system. The PC and exhaust has been replaced with stock items. Also identified that it has had the flapper mod done.

My experience of the ride is that the engine is a screamer, I find that it is sounding unnecessarily wound up through the lower revs. The bike rides well but i'm finding that the engine sound is telling me i should be higher in the rev range. I don't have the experience to know if this is normal for a 1000cc but I was expecting a powerful grunts. (hope to god, someone knows what i am talking about)

I guess my question is what checks can I do to know all is in order? Once a PC is removed, what does the bike revert too and does it need remapping?
Also, i know it has had oil changes. Should I change the filters and spark plugs? What else should I be doing?

    Thanks.
    JB

Sounds like you might have a -1 front and +2 rear sprockets, max speed forthat gearing would give about 165mph, great for track riding but she Will rev a bit at lower speed and use more fuel

Mine is set that way because I like the acceleration over top speed and do short track on it :)

Standard sprockets for 05 are 16/40

Maybe get everything back as per manual and then take it from there .

Yes, I think the sprocket set up you mention is my hunch. It would be difficult to take things back to manual because as I don't know exactly what has been changed. I can live with the set up if I know, have an experienced second opinion on the cause and effect of the components and added and removed.

I was running a 15 / 42 on mine and decided to go to 16 / 42 but didn't like it so have just returned it back to the 15 inch front. Like the more responsible feel and instant pickup but each to there own :)

If your taking it all back to stock no way to remap it anyway once the PC is removed. Shouldnt need it though with stock filters pipe etc
