My bikes done 9000miles, was serviced just before i got it with 8300 i think.. when is the next service due? is it a simple oil \ filter (i can do this myself)? or is it bigger? should i go to a specialist to get to done? thanks
Manual says 8000 check as follows.. Check the fuel and hoses check and adjust the thottle cables change the engine oil and fit new filter check cooling system check the pulse secondary air injection check brake system and brake light switch operation check side stand and interlock circuit check front and rear suspension check and adjust the steering head bearings check wheels ,wheels bearings ,tyres lubricate the clutch, gearchange and brake levers, brake pedal, sidestand pivot and thottle and exhaust valve cables check tightness of all nuts and bolts and fasteners So should be able to save yourself a few quid pal by doing it yourself hope this helps.
I tend to change my oil and filter every 2-2500 miles, it maybe changing it more than needed, but it sure as hell ain't going to harm it. I then just keep an eye on everything else over the course of the year. If you do track days, I personally drop the oil after each one and then change the filter after every other one. Only thing I now draw the line at is valve clearances (16,000 miles), a right pain to do and last time I did them on my 929 Blade, i spent about 2 hours making special tools.
do it yourself, oil + filter 30mins, brake fluid front and rear 1hr, coolant 1hr, air filter (get BMC's ) or honda 30mins- everything else is just checking, hardest thing is always taking the fairing off spend an evening doing it every year and then you'll know it's done, i'm sad so do the oil twice a year sometimes looks like it's just gone in, and semi is fine for road and odd track days. if your fussy change the plugs but they'll probably ok till 16,000 when the valve clearences should be checked ( rarely are they out even on ex race bikes ). one old tip is to put a strong magnet on the oil filter, does the same as magnetic drain plug but you keep any stuff in the filter which you'll chuck. I'm really impressed with water wetter just add some to the coolant and it'll really bring down the temp.
