    Hi guys.

    New member here.

    Just bought a Repsol RR7.

The only thing that needs attention is the radiator as it is very manky and corroded.

Found an aftermarket one on eBay:

    HONDA CBR 1000 RR FIREBLADE 2006-2007 06 07 RADIATOR | eBay

Are these any good or should I look into getting my original radiator recored / reconditioned?

    Many thanks!

Hello dude.. It is an unfortunate problem on them RR's ! I have a RR6 and mine is looking a bit shabby compared to the rest of the bike ! If its not leaking at all id advise you get it off and give it a real good deep clean and respray it and see what life you can get from it ! There are lots of companies that will recore it for you and much cheaper than buying an original ! Ive seen the ebay ones and i would be tempted to try one as they are a lot cheaper and as long as your temperature is running the same, and there shouldn't be any reason it won't, its gotta be ok ! Id also advise you get a radiator cover when you can to give it half a chance in the future !

I noticed mine was really scabby in places when I removed the bodywork to fit my radiator guard. Any suggestions on which paint is best to use?

Id see what high temperature paint you can get from halfords or somewhere ! Go gentle when cleaning and when you paint it don't go too bananas over the fins and clog them up !!

To be honest the fins look fine so I'd mask them off and just do the sides. Wouldn't want to risk clogging them up either.

    Thanks for the replies!

Having looked at some of those sites it seems that having the original recored would be more expensive than buying one of the aftermarket ones.

Quality and lifespan would be my only concern although I only do dry miles and the bike is kept in a heated garage so it might not be such an issue.

You'd probably get away with any paint Jon because its not like your rad is getting silly hot like an exhaust or anything ! I know a top car customiser that does rads and brake callipers and everything in the same paint they do the bodies in on their show cars !

Let me know how it goes with the aftermarket rad gcon, as its something i think I'm going to have to look at sooner or later !

Well lads I've just went ahead and bought the aftermarket one on eBay.

Anyone who has bought one off that seller has left good feedback and said that the radiator was good quality.

    Time will tell I suppose!

    I'll keep you all posted.

Took the radiator off this afternoon.

Quite corroded but no major damage so I'll give it a clean and might get a few quid for it:

It's a good excuse to replace all the rusty hose clips on the cooling system too!

I've put a few hundred miles on the new radiator now lads.

    So far so good!

Fitted perfectly. I stuck an R&G guard on too.

Maintains temps of around 78° in normal riding.
