Hi everyone, We've got an RR8 in the garage and she wont start up. A few weeks ago we took the bike into its 30000km service and the mech reported measuring 16V+ over the battery poles indicating a duff R/R When we got home, being a sparky and working with standby batteries on a daily basis, I checked the battery and even though it was low on CCA's, it was still within acceptable limits. Tried measuring the volts over the terminals and all ok?? Installed a battery monitor and rode the bike as normal. The other day after riding the bike all day, in the evening the bike just wont start up. The motor is turning over, the instrument display blanks out though still backlit, and the little power light on the power commander isn't on. Get the bike recovered and I measure the CCA's to zero, with 12V over the poles. Ok, new battery, but the battery shouldn't be dead already. Ordered a new R/R just in case as well as a new battery but I read online that I should also check the stator. I'm wondering if it is the regulator, is the bike not starting only due to the battery being damaged?, or am I in risk of having electronics on the bike buggering up.... more specifically wondering why the power commander's power light isn't on?
Could the power commander be duff and pulling the battery down. I've see a 24v proxistor a few years ago taking down a whole 24v system in a panel due to an earth fault inside! Disconnect the power feed to the PC and see what happens. It's only 20 mins to take off the tank cover and disconnect the PC to see if she fires up without it connected.
Thanks, I'll certainly disconnect the PC to see if she starts up, but that doesn't explain the 16V+ over the terminals. Found on youtube a way to recover the AGM battery which is what I got on there now. I've ordered the original Yuasa Gel battery.
