Ok. It's been a while since I've posted one of my major modification build threads but I've just got a mod worthy of another long, rambling, photo heavy post.

A little while ago our own illustrious Jimbo Vills alerted us to the existence of RRG, Racing Radiator Guards as a fabricator and purveyor of.... well, of racing radiator guards... (should have thought that sentence through more). Anyway, being the owner of an ancient but beloved 954, I know from experience that there aren't that many guards out there to save me five or six hundred notes should the horrifying happen, so after the aforementioned Jimbo enquired of a price and I did a double take as to just how much cheaper it was to the few alternatives out there, then ordered one sharpish.

As soon as I had a chance this affo, I began to assemble the necessary bits and tools to begin the mod mission.

According to the online video instructions, this was all I need.

But, experience and the advance of age and senility has taught me to assemble a few extras first.

A quick brush off of my antique fly collection and we begin.

Some well thought out warnings for the hard of thinking were extremely useful.

The process is to push one edge of the guard into one side of the rad, then flatten it to the curve of its face and nip the opposite side into the recess there. It's supposed to be a tight fit. It is a tight fit. It's such a tight fit that my raddled, arthritic thumbs couldn't get enough purchase to force it into the gap.

So yes, of course, the five minute job promoted itself to one side of the faring coming off...

Fiddly, hidden, bastard poppers, and different length bolts for the unwary.

    Shiny...

Once it was off, I could begin squeezing with some force.

Once in nice and tight, I could fix it permanently. The kit comes with both zip ties and lock wire for this.

    What!?!

    I'm no Arthur Bike Mad...

Some of them were bastards though, being careful not to foul the fan, but eventually... the last one was in.

Bugger! Didn't see the goldfinch feather until I posted the picture. One of Bert's trophies... the little shit!

So, to reassembly. Remember the different sized screw...?

Yep. Got put back in the wrong hole...

    Swear tin...? IMG_0987.JPG

Once I'd found which hole it was supposed to go, the faring went back a treat.

That was when I saw the bolt that has to be done up first or else it's inaccessible...

    Swear tin...?

So then the faring went back a treat for a third time and, thankfully, for the sake of my CDO, the stickers lined up...

    Rock and roll...

Nicely finished, very cheap, prompt delivery, easy to fit (unless you're an idiot)...

    yeah easy to fit.
you have to make sure all the edged are aligned properly before tightening it up so you don't leave unprotected gapds
and tighten the cable ties after the first ride
I also used Loctite on the bottom bolt

That looks as if you've cable tied it through the rad fins (?).
I've fitted Evotech's to the last three bike I've owned and r and g's to one or two others and I've never had to do that eek!
