Rubber time.

    Hey peeps, it's come that time that I need a new set of rubber.
    I'm currently running Michelin pilot power 3 that came with the bike. What do you people recommend for just every day road use?
    Also what are your thoughts and opinions on ordering online & getting fitted elsewhere & where ya stand in the unlikely event of something happening?
    Should also mention that I'm in Plymouth.

    You,ll probably get great advice on a wide range of tyres on here. Tyres are a very individual choice so final choice down to you as only you know truthfully how you ride.
    Personally my '16 'blade came with Dunlop sportsmax 2. I cannot fault them for my type of riding. Great feel, grip in wet is good and better than my talent in the dry. Fast road riding, mainly in the dry but a recent wet weekend in Wales, they were all I needed. I don't do trackdays so cannot comment on performance there. After nearly 3000 miles front and back look ok and just showing the first signs of squaring off, but not noticeable when riding.

    Yeah I know it's down to personal choice, but just trying to guage what other people are using and rate on the same type of bike. I know the certain tyres that I won't go for (again personal preference). By any advice will be greatly appreciated.
    And anyone that has any advice or opinions.on ordering online and getting fitted.

    I use pilot road 4's mate and ride all year round and really cannot fault them.
    I buy them online from a place called openeo, Tyre leader also good value they get here in a few days and I get them fitted to loose wheels for ten quid. Never had a problem with fitting or tyres supplied.

    I'm using Bridgestone S21. Really like them, just ticked over 3000 miles...tread depth is still ok but the rear is squared a little. I don't ride in the wet and if I get caught out I go very steady...i imagine PR4's are the better tyre for cold/wet conditions though. Buying online from a reputable source wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

    I think it is always best to have them supplied & fitted by the same shop but sometimes can cost a lot more. Which puzzles me because as a shop you already charge for the fitting, why not cut your margin on the tyre (which is huge!)
    Cleary if you supply your own tyre, then there is more legwork for you to do in case of problems: is it the tyre or the fitting.... I have done this and touch wood no issues.

    On the tyre front, if you are happy with the performance & wear of your PP3, why not stick with them? If you want to change, what is it you don't like about them?
    Metzler roadte01 gets excellent review as does m77r but they are expensive (280~260 tyre only!) so given the poor condition of our debris covered roads, getting a puncture can be expensive. I would choose on of these if money was no object.
    Otherwise I would stick to my old design pilot power. For fast road use, they handle anything I can throw at them, my riding is pretty smooth and the bike leans to the edge of the tyre with no drama and wait for it less than £130 for a pair

    How would you rate the Michelin Pilot Power 3 ? I'm thinking about fitting these next time round - seem to be the best pound v performance tyre out there.

    Totally agree. I had these fitted by the dealer when I got my bike and I was sceptical at first as they were a "1st generation sports tyre" - not dual or triple compound. I had Rosso 2's on before that.

    However the tyres have impressed me a lot. They are sticky and seem to have good durability (done close to 2K on them). That's why I'm looking at the PR3 as a better/newer version of the original pilot powers.

    Well I've opted for the Michelin Power RSs to go on my SP, didn't like the Pirellis in the wet and what's more there is 30 pound cash back on them too, result.

    S21....or just read performance bike lap of TT rutter lapped on m77 and really rated them good enough for a 123mph lap on new GSXR may be worth a go....I'm tempted next time although really happy with bridgestones...really is personal choice ...

    I've had a couple of sets of PP3"s and would agree that they are a very good tyre. However I now run Power RS"s and for me the difference is huge. Not only the grip in both dry and wet conditions, but the feel of the bike how quickly it turns in etc. Would highly recommend.

    Oponeo £216 for the pair.
