Rubber woes

    So on way home from work I noticed rear end a bit soft and unsure of itself got back home into garage and dam nail in tyre. Tyres hardly done anything and I'm skint. Train it is in the morning ffs. DSC_0077.JPG

    Bad luck mate.

    You could have it properly plugged by a bike garage.

    I personally wouldnt be doing any sort of speed on a repaired tyre but I guess they wouldnt offer these services unless they are safe to ride on?

    It's zr rated I thought you couldn't plug them law wise.

    See a few zr rated repaired tyres on the bay, guessing they must have been track tyres?

    This tyre shop seems to have a few with 'vulcanised' repairs and cant see a mention of not fit for road use.

    Is vulcanising any different to a normal plug?

    Yeah I saw them last night too and thought the same but I'd have thought scrutineers would pick it up at a track. I only need it to last till end of month then I'll buy a new tyre so I need to find some one who will plug it near me. Budget blade life!

    Perfectly legal to repair.

    Providing the puncture is not beyond 50% of the centre of the tyre and provided the sidewall has not been compromised, then no problem repairing with a proper internal vulcanised plug.

    I have had 4 or 5 in the rear of the Blackbird at any one time and I have still done days out at the Nurburgring, Silverstone and the like without issue.

    Most tyre companies are happy with one or 2 plugs, but it is the 4 or 5 that cause an issue and that is really just from a point of them protecting themselves if one were to let go.

    The real issue lies with the external repair kits which are a temporary get you home fix as these cause delamination hence the reason they have a maximum speed rating as the external plugs cause the tyre to overheat, and when they let go, boy do they let go,

    Had mine plugged when I was a lowly student, the plug was in there for months with no issues.
