Usually under normal riding conditions temp gauge shows 78/79 degrees this slowly increases when sitting in traffic etc, went out today (lowish air temperatures) and when idling temperature increased rapidly to 90+, reducing slowly when on the move to mid 80s then eventually back to normal, but gauge reading seems to fluctuate much quicker than normal.
Water level is good and no fluid loss, engine feels very warm when stationery but that may be my imagination
    Any suggestions ?

That sounds like nothing to me Brad. Mines topped out at 108 for the past few weeks when sat at traffic lights.

I don't think there's nothing to worry about.

Frequently see 103/104 while stopped in traffic....reckon the fan comes on then & back down to 78/79 once moving in free flowing air.

My temps had me watching them all day today. Running low 80’s in free flow but through our seaside towns with heavy traffic and the pace slowed to a crawl they soon shot up into the 90’s and when I couldn’t move on two occasions I saw 103 and the fan kicked in.
Temps reduced quickly to below 100 and once moving steadily dropped to low 80’s.
At the first stop I asked my mates about their temps and they all had rises and drops as I had but their readings just seem to be lower. Cooler in free air and not peaking as high as mine did.
I’m going to change my coolant and see if there’s any noticeable difference. I would definitely like her to run cooler.
As per usual, bike was given a look over last night and coolant level was spot on.

Mine hits 108 and doesn't worry me as the fan kicks in. It would, if the fan didn't though!

both this and previous Blade hit 108 when stationary, as long as both fans are on and no loss of coolant I wouldn't worry.
The main thing to watch is a weak rad cap, or poor seal, this will allow pressure loss and boil over, the first you will notice is when coolant runs out of the reservoir overflow

I've noticed that mine take longer to go back down to 82 since fitting a rad guard, ,,,,,,,
Not too worried, ,,,,,,,, fan kicks in at 105

Seems completely normal to me @bradt..... I get your concern though. There's something slightly unsettling when your sat on the bike and the temp gauge reaches 100°:eek:

Just try and stay on the open road and not get caught behind too much traffic ;)

what was the ambian temp. Those temps are normal in 25+ temps.
What grade oil do you use? if you go up one step (30>40 or 40>50), you will see the engin temp fluctuation calms down a fair bit.
This is all assuming everything works normally as others have pointed out
