has anyone experimented with using rust remover on chain to remove rust from difficult to reach spots: side plate, top & bottom of links?
If you've let it get that bad you should be ashamed of yourself Seriously though, if its light rust just a wire brush (toothbrush style) should clean it up and just re oil with gear oil! Wipe off excess and go.
I hear you and can’t argue! It’s not that bad. A couple of spots around the head of the pin which a brush has difficulties. I tend to do my Winter riding when it’s dry, but cannot salt dust getting into the tiny spaces
chain cleaner will take rust off too, I use that stuff with the gorilla on the box and one of those chain scrubbers I do it the naughty way, i still have ten fingers, for now...
Well I got down to it, used my old brass bristle brush and chain cleaner to rinse. Managed to get rid of whatever salt redisue that causing the odd surface rust Decided not to use XCP chain lube but GT85 instead, followed by a coat of wurth dry lube as an experiment to see how the rust protection performance is. All rollers rolling, chain strech minimal, still at the start of the green zone after nealy 21k miles so I am not complaining
