Adjusted the sag tonight I'm 90kg kitted up Rear as standard I was getting 34mm I went up 2 ramps and now on 29mm Front i left standard and is 38mm 125mm travel fully extended. 87mm travel remaining with rider I was expecting to have to soften the front as I still have 30mm travel left (using tie wrap on fork and riding the bike to record travel) I am going to test ride it tomorrow hopefully and may take -1 turn off the front and 1/4 turn of compression as I'm not usin all the fork travel.
Let me know how improved the back is mate.. Iv been thinking about setting mine but worried about cocking it up
Remember there is not full length travel in the the cbr1000rr .... there is 10mm less fork travel its the way the forks are made..... this also helps if your bike bottoms out on a very big hole
yeah i took that into account when i measured the tie wrap. i still have plenty of travel left after removing that so am going to try going a bit softer on the front. the handbook says the front travel is 110mm. if you lift the front end of the ground the amount of fork leg showing is 125mm the rear is 138mm travel the rear feels pretty good but was slightly too soft for me on the standard setting.
we were definitely getting 125mm (from bottom of rubber dust cover) lifting it up, dropping it, a bounce then get on. 38mm is about what i would aim for but I'm surprised i didn't have to adjust the front as i thought the springs would be stiff for me.
how much do you weigh kitted up? im 90kg kitted up and standard front and +2 ramps on the rear set my sag about right (38f 29r). give them settings a try if your a similar weight. also wind the front rebound in 1 full turn. that makes a hell of a difference. mine used to run wide when i let the brake off mid corner. i tested the bike today but it was really windy and rained so couldn't get a proper feel for the bike. it did feel like it turned easier and tighter with more weight over the front and didn't have the initial bounce at the back end i used to feel. i softened the front comp 1/4 turn and it felt better over the bumps but i couldn't really push to hard today so not sure what it will be like.
Flatstick what was your settings before you changed them and what tyres are you using on the bike just now
i was running standard setting apart from 1 turn slower front rebound which i did pretty much straight away as standard the front end is very bouncy and runs wide off the brake. i find the back end good out of the box. diablo corsa 55 Dan; your pretty much the same weight as me then so my settings will work been in the garage tonight and double checked my numbers my settings now are; Front +1 turn rebound (screw on fork top) - 1/4 turn compression (screw on fork bottom) - 1 turn preload (19mm hex on fork top) Sag is 36mm Rear damping standard preload +2 ramps sag 28mm the bike turns much better now and the back end doesn't wallow and bounce of bumps as much. you 100% need to add front rebound but the other settings seem to work too.
Its not my bike but that rear end sounds pretty stiff at 28mm but if it suits you then well done and enjoy
Spoke to mct and emailed dave moss and both said around 30mm on the rear on the new blades. There is no static sag due to the way the shock is mounted and the way linkage works so ~30mm on the rear with rider is right. Cheers though
