Hi guys and gals just starting to prep for a trip to Misano GP .Leaving on Tuesday for my second visit and will be taking in some fantastic roads through the black forest, into the Alps and the stelvio pass,(weather permitting) arrive on Friday for the GP then on the way back heading through Tuscany and along the Med coast road past Genoa,Monaco, onto Fayence then the Napoleon route before blasting out the miles to get home. as with all these trips you wait all year for the trip to come around and then its all over in a blink of an eye and your back Home I will try to upload some pics along the way
Sounds great. Lots of riding the bike and Misano GP. Excellent. On the way back, I notice that there is the "Monaco Yacht Show", Port Hercules, Monaco, on 23-26 September ! Might be worth a flypast even before the event - may be some of the biggest ....... yachts you are ever likely to see. They might even be passing around a few trays of Canapes and Bolly ! Look forward to hearing how it went, and seeing some pics. Bon route.
Sounds great, did the same several years ago and called at Monaco on the way back. Check out the Monaco tunnel either very early or late sounds, looks fantastic, will try to find vid. You can walk pass the security guards at casino royal into entrance section, fantastic building. The track is my favourite, the Italian people just love it. Don't forget Ducati tour 10 euros
Been to Monaco few times on the bike, really is special just cruising around!! We went to Italy once just to go to the Ducati factory tour, pre booked and planned the whole tour round it (why not ey) to rock up and find it closed.... They didn't bother telling us lol! Just shrugged there shoulders and smiled... Got to love Italians ha ha
Dunno about MickyDove, but I went to Missano.....Used a route I have done before a couple of times and modified it to divert to Missano and back. Day1 - Motorways to Prum, then twisties to cochem Day2 - Follow the Mousel river, then cross country to Dahn, into France, cut the corner of France and back over the Rhien to Baden Baden, down the B500, Through Trier, then cross country to lake constance Day3 - Lake constance cross country to Fern Pass via egg and the L200, short motorway to Ins brook, Gerlos pass, then to zell am zee. Day4 - Grossglokner, passo gaiu, passo feddia, passo mendula, stop at coredo in the mountains day5 - motorways to imola, see the senna tribute etc, twisties to Missano day6 - MOTOGP!!! day7 motorways to mugelo, ducati tour, which actually was great, then one of our party was desperate for tyres, it took 3 hours of waiting, so had to motorway blat back to Coredo day8 - Passo Tonele, Gavia, Stelvio, Fluela, stopping in Davos day9 - quick trip to Cunter for a childish photo, then Oberal, Furka, Grimsel and Susten, stop off in Rigi Day10 - town roads to the german border, hitting the bottom of the B500, and rode it all the way back to Fruedenstat, unfortunately it was pissing hard, so took It easy. Day 11 - Reversing day2, going to Cochem then sliders guest house near the Nordschlef...tried to get on track but it rained and closed to bikes Day 12 - home We did the trip last year (minus the missano bit) and it was pissing hard all week, so bad we actually binned a couple of days and went straight to the hotel rather than the passes. We were soooo lucky with the weather, one day of rain, the rest was glorious sun. One of our party realised his chain and sprockets were shagged on day 2, so with a bit of help from a hotel receptionist, and a garage owner, we managed to get chain / sprockets (for a CBR1000rr actually) so had to go 40 miles out of our way to get those fitted, the same guy then needed tyres, but again helpful locals found us some albeit with a long wait! I had prebooked all hotels, and managed to get one 3 miles from the MIssano circuit, so we walked there on Sun, and it was rammed at 9:30! We barley got a space, so stayed there all day with more trying to squeeze in, but the atmosphere was mental, and it must have been 98% of people were wearing yellow! (the Italian birds are FIT!!) A cracking race! It was a fantastic trip, had a play with quite a few bikes up and down the passes, and around the black forrest area...deffo recommend it, thinking of doing a Spanish GP next!
Great write up, cheers mate! Looked amazing so hopefully we get good weather next year. Might have to pick a few of your routes as only got 3 days to get down there and 3 days riding back after the race weekend. Looking forward to some of the Swiss passes.
I'm on my way again currently in Singen southern Germany having just traveled the B500 from Baden Baden. Tomorrow we are doing the Timmelsjoch pass then on to Cortina D'Ampezzo then onto Misano for Friday afternoon. It's a fantastic place enjoy!
Well that was a bit of a ride-out. Not sure which ferry port you arrive at ? I arrived at St Malo, which means having to do a great chunk of France before getting anywhere interesting - around the Pays de Volcans in the Auvergne Then there is some nice riding on to the Alps, taking any scenic route ending in Briancon. After that it was head down again on the Italian toll roads - Asti, Parma, Bologna, Rimini, St Marino - flat straight roads ! Same on the way back, but with a bit more of a detour into Alps/Provence. Mostly a hot, sunny trip - got properly hot on race day. My little Casio registered 40' C sitting in the sun in the grandstand - went and sat in the shade between events. The MotoGP race was understandable bearing in mind the championship positions. Marquez was not going to risk a DNF, so brought it home safely in 4th place. Dani Pedrosa was free to challenge Valentino and deny him 1st place points - which he did showing his true talent and ability. Shame you can't walk around the whole circuit, and seem to be consigned to your designated (ticketed) area. Also Grandstand D had a very high fence that made decent photography (of the bikes and circuit ) impossible. Not sure what it is like for other sections of the track. With my ticket I got parking for the bike inside Grandstand D, it cost extra €15 I think. Useful because you can access your bike during the day, leave your lid and jacket chained up, and it is all safe. If you have panniers you can carry stuff, and have access as you wish - otherwise you are only allowed to leave the circuit, and return, twice. A few pics, There is a Fireblade in there somewhere - Tribuna D - extra cost "Park Biker" No idea what this was about ! Shady spot under the grandstand, on a hot day - everyone making use of the empty cardboard boxes to make themselves comfortable - lovely and cool under there and you could still see the track by standing on the ledge ! Anyway, not many pictures of the gig itself, so would be interested to see any body else's pics. A few pictures of the trip there and back, which is probably more to do with touring.
