Hi Folks Well we have gone and done it, next May a ferry will transport myself, my mate and two Repsol Blades to Santander for a week of hopefully rain free riding. We plan to base ourselves in Santander itself, has anyone ever stayed there before? JB
Rob you going and returning via Santander? if yes why not tour around Spain and then come back if your no, then I suggest over to the med, then up via the midi pyrenees. I would suggest not basing yourself there, it's ok but there are much better area around Spain. I went through it and stopped for brekky and that was enough. if you go to San Vicente de la Barquera,is 40 miles west from Santander and is a lovely place. camped their the night and lovely food area etc...
Hi mate please see my photobucket EURO TOUR 2012 cbr1000rr pictures by wedgiewolves - Photobucket The last pics are of santander too be honest it was the roughest part of our journey. We got dropped off on the pont aven and went straight towards the top of the pyrenness . Santander is too built up its like a sunny Birmingham. Id travel as i have on both euro trips towards san sebastian. Then down the pyrenness picking up n240 through to Jaca then down to Southern Spain its a 500 or so mile track quaility tarmac with beautiful views. We well 2 of the 6 group done it in a day others caught up next day. Then the first year headed along southern france and headed for Monaco this year we headed towards benamendena Marbella stopped in a 5 star all inclusive hotel a couple of days then shot through middle of Spain to Santander this was over 9 days obs if you have less shorten the route .
As wedgiewolves has already said San Sebastian is the place to make a base. Santander is very commercial. I spent my 40th birthday at San Sebastian along with 20 of my friends, most on bikes but some partners in cars. Been there and never failed to have a complete ball! It has a beach, an old town with cathedral and hundreds of bars. It's a great place for a bunch of lads or just a nice romantic weekend with the missus. Picos de Europa is just down the road for some fabulous sport riding and when you're ready for home Santander is only 45 mins down the road, an easy jaunt after breakfast.
i'm with firebloke...san sebastian is the Way forward...also get boat there and then do pair of knees to andorra....lots of awsome roads!!
Been on various bikes to Spain for the last 5 summers. Excellent roads, apart from south coast and not much on them. Best bit is the camera's are not linked to our police database, yet! Just keep an eye out for the Guardia and don't park up near a police station in Basque territory if you have an alarm/immobiliser. Booking.com good for cheap places to stay.
