whilst at work today I thought I'd put the wet day and my time to good use and sort out the communications/navigation once and for all.
I searched the forums and got the name Scala G4, which I know of at least 2 people that own/use it and good reviews from both.

As a few of you know, i all ready have the navigation sorted out, as i own a TomTom 1005 live, my aim was to buy a Scala G4 and pair it with the TomTom and use the other benefits Radio etc.

Well its hit a brick wall.
the TT model i own is not compatible with the Scala G4, to be totally fair whilst in all the guff it states that it can be paired with 'most' sat nav's but mine isn't included.
A little bit of Google work and i find a guy on a forum who had the same problem, he had posted the reply received from TT and the basic attitude was 'from TT' the 1005 is a car based navigation aid, and its design was no way ever intended for use on a motorcycle, however should you wish to use our services? we have options available with our new range TT rider.
Well the upshot of all that is, I'm not prepared to go out and buy another navigation system just for the bike.
My choices as far as i can see are
Continue with my original plan I.e the TT i have in the tank bag and make do?
Leave the TT out of the equation, jailbreak the iPhone4 stick a TT map ' borrowed from a friend ;)' buy the Scala G4.
to understand my reasoning, I'm not really looking at the TT as a visual aid, more of an audio one, and indeed not to be used at every moment especially when touring, perhaps for music yes? but for unfamiliar town cities, to get to digs POI's etc. the Scala would not IMO be a waste, because as said earlier a couple of guys i ride with here on the forum have the same.
    Have you experienced anything similar?
Am i using a sledge hammer to crack a nut?

    over to you.

Edit, as kind as it appears, please do not offer advice on jailbreaking the Iphone and installing the map my self, you have before you a technophobic near 45 year old ;)

If your TT 1005 has bluetooth, it should connect to the Scala mate. The Scala connects to a mobile, sat nav, mp3 etc all at once, and you may find the audio navigation instructions route through the iPhone mate, as your iPhone should connect to the tom-tom. Phone calls will automatically cut instructions for the duration of the call, and so should the music.
If it doesn't and your TT has line out, then the line out will connect to the auxiliary in on the scala.
As far as jailbreaking goes dude, i can talk you through it over the phone mate.

    Ok.
Right Gazza, It seems the 1005 doesn't output bluetooth audio to any headset, so you can't do anything about that. All mis not lost though.

However, the scala G4 has an AUDIO IN on it, so you can use an audio wire from the 1005 line out into the G4 so you can hear instructions. Sorted.
It means having a wire from the 1005 to the helmet, but saves you buying a new sat nav dude.

Theres a few on here that use a G4, all rave about them. If you do decide to get one, Steve can use mine so you both can converse while on your trip.

Trying to get away from the cable idea mate, as i say i could do the jail break route and use the Iphone.
a kind offer regarding the loan of the Scala to steve for our trip, he would be able to tell me off whilst out riding lol

Edit, but don't i have to be within 1000 meters of him, ppfft lol

The range is 1 mile dude!

Yup, Jail break it then mate.

It's the better solution, you can use listen to music, sat nav instructions and take calls etc all in one and at the same time mate. If using the iPhone (same as me) then the music cuts out automatically when the nav instructions are heard, and cuts out if steve is talking to you. It's a very clever bit of kit.
