About 20 miles around were i live as there are loads of roundabouts and swift sections i think the idea is not to make a c**t! of yourself after coming out of the tyre fitters shop.
50 miles of the roads you normally use at about 70%...Speed not angle!! You need to get the angle going Don't think that 100 miles of duel carriage and roundabouts will do if you never ride them... Just get them hot and slowly push more and more. You can feel when they are scrubbing in
Yea i remember about the lean angles. More and more as the miles rack up and the temps come up. Very first time on brand new hoops, about 2 mile in and the usual 'sorry mate, didnt see you' from a side street. Black line from front tyre, big brown line from rear pipe!! Lol
I give it 10 miles n the motorway to warm them up, then hit my favourite roundabout for around 100 revolutions, leaning further each time. Got stopped the other year by plod, he was accusing me of getting my knee down! Then on the way back, take another familiar route back which has opposite corners, and scrub the other side in. Apparently, its the heat that releases the releasing agents in the tyres, and after 50 miles mine are well and truly scrubbed in. I hate new tyres though......
Don't forget that you are not only looking to "abrade" the tyre surface gradually, but also looking to put some heat cycles through the tyre as well.
Don't agree Si!! You'll never get the left side as good as the right doing roundabouts then lefts. I say do normal roads, left and right and build it up either side taking a few mill off either side gradually until your off the edge..
I beg to differ Jimbo.. I have no chicken strip on left hand side, 5mm or so on the right.... Saying that, i prefer left turns though.
Left handed??? All I'm saying is, I dont think you should think your tyres are scrubbed after a roundabout session, as it'll obviously be done on the right and not the left, then the next big left hander you'll be confident, give it loads of beans but be on unscrubbed tyres! Seen it before... Think it should be a gradual, equal, thing
Yeah, of course..gradual! That's what i'm saying... get some left turns going too once they are heated up to scrub the other side in.. taking it easy and leaning over further each time.
Ignore most of them All depends on the road conditions and type of tyre. wet and cold or just wet it will take much much longer which I have experiences 20+ degress and hot , again have got new hoops when hot and dry and after 50 miles to wales I've used all of both sides on the new tyres. Also Normally 50-100 but if you got tyres that will last 10k on the rear they are mcuh harder and may take more time. Same with a soft track Tyre [
I have in the past rode home washed all the mould release oil off the tyres and then gone out for a lite scrubbing session and alls good.
50 - 100 for me, no special stuff, just careful, then I psychologically think it's scrubbed and ride normally, or stupidly, which is normally
New tyres dont change my actual riding, im just more alert to dangers. I dont think it really makes that much difference as i've bought tyres on TD's and gone straight out and after the normal 3 laps they were fine. ^In the wet though, i would ease off..
