Here's a ride I did in 2012 which I'd like to share with you. As I turned 50 in October last year I wanted to commemorate it with a ride. Not just any ride but something I could look back on for years to come and think. THAT WAS SPECIAL! Well as the Para Olympics were just coming to a close and the Post Office announced they would paint a Post Box Gold in every town where the Olympian came from, well you can guess. I thought, that's it! I will visit every Gold Post Box that Team GB get. At that point we had 35 Gold and where still pulling them in...... hand over fist as it turned out. As some of you know we accumulated 110 (Gold Post Boxes - one for each member of the team) in total (I know they have added 5 more since but they can stick them i've done my bit!). Not just content with visiting them I decided to put a time limit on my ride. 22 Days to be exact! The same number of days it took to win the Gold Medals. Rather than do my normal trick of posting 1,000's of Photo's I'll just post up a video that my Good friend LBK of the Manc Riders put together. The Blue pin's by the way were my to-do's the green were DONE! 1 Man, 1 Motorbike, 1 Mission To Visit 110 Gold Post Boxes 19 Individual Days Riding A 6739 Mile Ride Each day was planned meticulously but were ridden separately with only Two Days being ridden together twice. Northern Ireland was impossible to do in one day nor was Sark. By the way Sark was the only one I did not take my bike as its illegal so I got a photo of my bike key infront of the Gold Post Box! Here is the Gold Post Box Challenge Ride Guide showing each days milage ridden and map. Hope you like something a little different and proves we have a lot to offer here in the UK
Fecking awesome man!! I remember seeing this on Bruce's page and thinking "this bloke is crazy" and "how on earth did he get a pass for that!?" Well now I have a better understanding of it.... Nice one dude! Great thread
Cheers Guy's, towards the end the GPBoxes got further and further away and it took a lot to get on the bike and ride to North Scotland in -4 degrees C I tried taking some video footage on the GoPro only to find it was a block of ice! Passed numerous crashes and detours but its as clear in my head today as it was when I did it. Not being able to find a GPBox at 0200 hours in the middle of no wear became a regular thing causing some rides to take up to 4 hours longer than planned but I was true to the clock and the NI trip ran over one day by 35 minutes so was logged as 2.
Cheers Brad - this year as been my quietest in 5 years! I'm just about to write my annual round up report. My 4th in as many years. I just like to clear my head every now and again, it just seams to be that I cover quite a few miles in the process. LOL
