Anyone had problems with the Phillips screws that hold the seat on? they wont budge may need an impact driver? has anyone replaced them for allen bolts after?
Yes, I used impact driver and refitted screws with standard screwdriver. No idea why they torque them up so tight it's not like it's gonna go anywhere with my arse onboard.
They do seem to be quite tight to get off, helps with a good screwdriver and large bit that fits properly. Am gonna change mine to Allen bolts, would be easier to remove.
The correct screwdriver to use is the one in the Honda tool kit - that said the screw is made of hard cheese so pretty crap to be honest. I manged to get some allen screws with a shoulder but to make them fit I had to use two big penny washers on each screw. You can tighted the screw and it hits the stop but without the big washers the seat rattles around a bit. The only plus point is the allen key works better than the Honda screwdriver.
I didn't like the soft fudge heads on them either so I replaced mine with allen bolts and a couple of shouldered spacers last winter, I threaded the internals so they stay as one piece (don't those long winter nights just fly by )
Very true. The correct tool for the job, not just what we think fits. Perhaps a little smidgen of copper slip on the threads once off will aid its removal in the future too?
Needed an Impact Driver first time off. I found they still tightened up a lot even if refitted without over tightening. Used a bito silicon grease from then on in.
This thread has just prompted me to buy these for the seat on the track bike. Should make removal quicker and without tools 12 BLACK Plastic Nylon M6 x 20mm Thumbscrews, Knurled + Slotted, Thumb Screw | eBay
Definitely copper slip or molybdenum disulphate grease when putting back in, never had a problem since
Place the screwdriver onto the screw head and give the end of the handle a tap with a hammer, they just need a little shock treatment, simples.
I mentioned plastic M6 bolts with grips for tightening by hand. Well they arrived today and fit a treat. Here they are holding the seat down on my track bike. I also have another 2 holding the nose cone over the mirror stay. These make removal a quick and tool free job
I hate the bloody rubbish bolts that are on there as standard they are poor...so I just treated myself to these luvlees they fit perfect TITANIUM M6 x 20mm pan head bolt. 5.1gm Grade 5. | eBay
