Been looking at bikes recently and found an immaculate one that took my interest. Only thing is this particular bike is 4 years old (not honda) and only has a stamp for the first service (bike has 4.5k on the clock). Intervals on this model are every year or 6k... Would this put you off? it is possible the old owner forgot to get the book stamped, and of course the old owner may of serviced it himself (you know what dealers are like with paperwork). Avoid altogether or use as bargaining tool? Your thought? Cheers,
Steer clear, steer very clear...... And then call me about my one! http://1000rr.co.uk/threads/2012-cbr1000rr-for-sale-options-to-buy-with-extras-or-standard.26556/
ha ha, looks very nice mate, but unfortunately I'm not in the market for a blade at the mo. Good luck with the sale.
Not really mate, it all goes on condition and discussion with the owner, I bought a 929 with just the running in stamp and 3K miles on it, It did another 90K and never a stamp went in the book, but the thing was serviced every 4K, and I kept most receipts.
Fek all to go wrong from the 600 mile 1st service to 4500 miles, serviced or not. If the rest is good then buy away matey!
Tricky question for me this one. Because as others have said it could be a minefield BUT......Mine doesn't have a single stamp in its book!! Why?? because every service I have ever had I have not been happy with in some form or another. So as soon as i got my current blade I have serviced myself at the correct intervals with genuine Honda parts and documented in the log book what I did. From the punters point of view maybe it makes my bike devalue but I don't plan on selling her in the near future and the next owner is going to love the care I lavished on every bolt from ally grease to copper slip
I home service and keep records and receipts too and it's never effected the resale value either in a part ex or a private sale. But I have lots of evidence and detail including photos so better than a main dealer service imo. Regards buying a bike with no history. If the price reflects such and you give it a very thorough mechanical inspection which comes back clean with no faults I see no reason to buy it if the price is right. If it was 10 years old with 30000 miles on the clock it would be more risky but at that mileage if the mechanical inspection is good then it's a low risk purchase imo. If you have any doubts though just walk away as there is always another deal round the corner if you look hard enough.
