got my XR1000 back in 2005. Although an excellent bike in many respects, I alway found it too noisy for my ageing ears. After trying many different after market solutions, I gave up and relied on homemade solution when possible! During the long warm weather with very little on, the wind noise was becoming an issue. I finally decided to take the plunge and buy shoei's own whisper strip. Must say I was not convinced it would make much difference. But boy what a surprise. After fitting it, it totally transformed the helmet quietness. Now it is quieter than my Roof Ro10. Money very well spent and recommend this add on! Must say My Roof is still far more stable in turbulant air at high speed. I put this down to its simple round shell compared to shoei's non spherical shape
I've got one on my xr1100, well worth the few quid, a bit stuffy in summer, especially this year. Only downside is it nearly rips my ear's off when removing my helmet, but it is nice to have ears that sill work, always wear plugs as well.
I wear balaclave all year round to keep the inside smell free and pack my ears so the kit is not too much of a bother for me. I do wear 39db plugs unless riding below 40mph.
So do I but the 'critics' on here just laughed at me for wearing one in summer. For me, if one's head is encased in carbon or fibreglass with nylon and sponge lining, a cotton balaclava will make little temperature difference but does help the comfort and fit of the helmet. Most know that I am not very good with words, but I can best explain it as being no different than walking around wearing a hijab in 30-degree heat.
I have different onces so I can chose one to match the season. In the winter, it helps keep my head & neck warm and off course the helmet stay cleaner for much longer. It keeps my big ears in check and stops my 2 day old beard grating inside the helmet People are different & some sweat a lot & overheat quickly hence do not wear them. And some are born cool
