Anyone in my neck of the woods currently riding with show plates and getting away with it? And if so .. what dimensions are you getting away with?
Had a one liner plate on mine and got stopped by an off duty traffic biker going to work. His words were Look lad get that plate off before my colleagues nick you or I will, if I see you riding with it again. Now I have a 7x5 with the correct spacing.Having only 5 letters in my reg, it doesn't look illegal or too small.
I'm Hampshire, i ride round surrey area occasionally and i get away with small plate and its tucked away above the hugger and even I don't have trouble with it
Yet! You will do at some point Martin. It'll piss someone off / or traffic cop with a bit of time on his hands etc... Had a small one on the blade, looked great, got nicked eventually.... One size down on the r1, doesn't look so great, but I don't look at it when I'm riding
I'm with Jimbo. It's not as big an airbrake as my lardy arse is and I don't have to look at it while I'm riding anyway. I just see it as an easy to police transgression for a quiet day day for the BIBs.
I ride about Surrey/SE with a 7x5 show plate mate and had no trouble from he law in the past 10yrs or so! You've got to be doing something else to provoke them into pulling you over, doubt they'll do it for the plate alone! IMHO single liners are a bit too obvious, so be sensible with the size and shape and you'll be fine.
Yeah I think it is one size down from standard, but it tidies up the tail end nicely without it being noticeably illegal. As has been said before, the smaller the plate, the smaller the font becomes. Personally I wouldn't have a standard size plate fitted to a tail tidy (except on MOT day!). Slightly smaller maybe.....
Call me sad but I've just been out and measured mine and it's actually 7.25x4.5. I've been pulled over by the Met police and they didn't bat an eyelid! I got mine from A1 Showplates, and would recommend them.
The dimensions are not so different, what makes the difference is the text size: That is the dealer plate - probably a bit over 9x7, an 8x6 flexible plate and the 7x5 that was on the bike when I picked it up.
