Guys, My better half knows nothing about bikes. My OEM Battery has had it, when i told her she offered the usual "how much is that gonna cost???". To which I could have replied "don't worry darling, forty quid will see it right". Here's the thing, I didn't I told her it was going to be at least £100. So, question a) Which is the best Lithium Ion replacement for my RR8? and b) Am I a twat and should I be feeling guilty! Just fancied getting rid of another 1.5kg! Many thanks folks Tug
oh and no you shouldn't feel guilty... do you think they feel guilty when they go shopping and accidently forget to tell us they bought something new?? you need a battery and the best one cost a bit of money....
Dusna feel guilty Tug! After various experiments I've found my Mrs 'thrives' the best when kept in a 'Mushroom' environment!
I bought one of these for £85 Lithium Ion HJTZ10S-FP Light Weight Racing Lithiumion Battery Replaces YTZ10S | eBay At that price it was a no brainer. When it arrived I thought it was some printer cartridges, was so amazed how light it was!
Only downside is you need a lipo charger also... Well thats only if and when you need to charge them right? I have an hiengericke lipo and thought I better buy there approved battery charger for it. turned up and it was a standard trickle charger!! buggers as thats not what you should use on these, they work better charging from a normal 12v battery charger not trickle so I was told.. But mines always held its charge when on the bike and never needed topping up. Also when removed from the bike they dont loose charge, oh only draw back is they dont like the cold so not for someone who does winter riding and store them in the warm over winter!
on the shido batts, no downsides that I came across, used it all season for endurance racing and never had any problems, at the end of the year, the battery was still full...
Yes I'm starting to get this. Last two days the temps over night have dropped below freezing. Though the Blade did start it turned over slower than with my duff Yuasa. I've now read up (should have done the research before!) that it is advisable to run the headlights for a minute to warm up the battery internals. Bit of a ball ache, If I'd known I would have just got a Mottobatt.
Not an expert pal but I don't think any kind of battery loves the cold. I might buy a normal one for the winter and trickle charge it for the summer while I use the lithium......worth it, or not????
Just so you know if it's been a cold night I leave the lights on whilst wheeling the bike out. This seems to allow the lithium battery to warm up a little so after this seems to crack the motor very well! I think this difference between the two (assuming both are fully charged) is that a lead acid progressively gives less amps to the starter whilst lithium gives more. The thing you have to watch out for is over turning the motor as this can burn it out. I found this out with my last battery wrecking my starter- luckily the starter was replaced under warranty.
