Having problems with my 2011 blade. Sometimes after a good hard ride it will not start. The starter motor turns but the bike won't fire. The fuel pump does not prime. I can feel the relay for the pump switching, but no noise from the pump. If I leave the bike for a couple of hours, it will start. Has anyone experienced anything like this? Any suggestions on what I can try? Cheers, Col.
Does the starter motor sound as strong as it should? Could just be the battery. Mine had very similar symptoms when the OE battery died (except the bit about "after a good hard ride"). See this thread... http://1000rr.co.uk/maintenance/2491.htm
This is true. A weak battery doesn't necessarily sound sick. Had a similar problem on my last bike. But Dan's right, it could be a million things and at this age the dealer should sort it.
Cheers guys. The problem with taking it to Honda is I will have to put the std fairings back on cos if Honda see it with the track fairings..they will probably void my warranty?? I checked the battery voltage and it was 12.6 volts. I hooked a booster up to the bike which was giving out around 13.5V and the bike still wouldn't start with leads me to think its not the battery. I lifted the tank to check for any loose plugs etc but found nothing. Only a curious pipe with looks like a breather. The pipe is formed and looks to me like it should connect to something but doesn't. Please see pic. does it look right?? put the tank back and the bike started??? Any thoughts?
Any thoughts guys? I still have this annoying problem! If it was a lamba fault would it show on Honda diagnostics? I have had it plugged into Honda diagnostics and it showed no faults??
The pipe is the drain from the tank (water around filler cap and over filling) its often kinked and water fills it up and can not drain so water stays around the fuel cap area it connects to another pipe that looks much the same and leads down by the side stand. As for no starting Id look at the kill switch first, had one a few months back that was also hard to start after a ride out turned out to be a simple faulty kill switch!
If it does turn out to be the kill switch, short the cnut out. It's just another 'stop' button that ya don't need and something else to go wrong.
I checked the battery voltage and it was 12.6 volts. A healthy battery should show 13.2 volts ie 6 cells @ 2.2v/cell. With no load, and @ 12.8 with a small load. Charging voltage should be @14.4 v
Cant see it been the battery! i would say a faulty coolant sensor crank sensor or somert thats gonna be a ball ache to find get the standard fairing on and chuck it into them!! in fact fook that leave your race fairing on the bike is under warranty so what diff should a fairing make just say the original one is at home as you dont wanna chip it haha!!
Cheers guys, I'm out of country for next 3 month now so loads of time to mull this one over, keep the thoughts comming please, appriciated
I've had a few problems recently starting my 09 blade after a shortish run and began to suspect something other than the battery, it was replaced new on a recent service, after checking the voltage over a few days, charging with the bike running etc. What was it you found with the Kill Switch, was it just dirt/moisture. I took mine apart yesterday and found little to point the finger at but gave it a clean out with WD40 and it seems a bit crisper in operation now but I haven't tried it yet, just wondered what you'd found
Was lookin at the wiring diagram yesterday, I have had problems with fuel pumP priming, the dash illumination and the fuel level sender, all three are earthed at a common point. I now have a suspision it's a bad earth so it's the first thing I all check when I get home
