Thought I'd post up a few images - I am constantly amazed at what this phone / device etc. can produce

Cousin was using a 400D and his pics are ace, but for portability I am quite happy with these

Yes, I've got a grudging respect for the camera on my iPhone. It uses the dreaded HDR as a default setting but manages to use it as an evaluative meter setting rather than to make Iron Maiden album cover skys and draw white lines around everything. Like people do when they use it:)

Great pics. Those Sony smartphones have some cracking cameras. The Z3 has a 22MP rear camera now iirc!

Talla & Megget supply the water for Edinburgh, in case you were wondering, lovely part of the world & the road from Moffat to Selkirk is a cracker.

It's not a black and white answer I'm afraid mate as image quality is very much horses for courses. A phone camera can produce a file size that will rival DSLR cameras from just a handful of years ago, but physically, the camera sensor is much smaller, and so are the pixels by comparison. Blowing the pictures up to print means that the camera phone has to go much bigger than the true camera will, so the effect is like painting a perfect copy of the Mona Lisa onto a balloon then blowing the balloon up.

Here's a comparison chart of most sensor sizes used in digital cameras. Remember, this is the physical size, not how many pixels are on it.

The sensor in Al's camera is 1/2.3". The Sensor in Si's 5D DSLR the 'Full Frame' one. My Fuji camera has the 1/2 size and my Canon has the APS-C one. Both have 18 million pixels but the Canon's images are much smoother because each pixel has nearly 10 times the area.

If I go out for a walk just to smell the flowers and maybe record a few interesting images, I'll just stick my phone in my pocket. If I go out for a walk just to take pictures, then it's a rucksack full of lenses and bodies.
