So lets just say one received an SP50 recently (in theory of course..), Does one have to tell ones insurance company immediately or when its time to renew? I remember a story once, informing an insurance company of a speeding offense and them saying it doesn't affect the policy mid-term - just when its renewed. Regards, Zee
You should tell them now. I once had an accident having failed to declare a conviction half way through the term, classic roundabout shunt. The insurance company agreed to meet the claim on the basis I paid them what they would have asked for if I had declared the conviction as I should have, which was actually very good of them. It wasn't much maybe £40 or so but they could have refused to pay for the damage I caused to the car I hit which would have been £1000 plus.
Thanks for the advice... i'll tell my friend.. However - if they offer you a price for 1 year, that takes into account the possibility of acquiring points or having an accident. So they take a gamble and they say its gonna cost £x amount... perhaps?
LOL No chance. This is an insurance company we are talking about. In the small print somewhere it will say you need to inform them immediately of any material change that may effect the premium. It could be a mod, the fact it's now parked on the road not in a garage, anything. I got lucky, this happened about 20 years ago, I think insurance companies have got nastier since then !
They will shaft you for sure!! I'd bet abv is right all day - will be in the small print. Won't affect your premium currently but they will duck out of paying you in the event of an accident that's for sure... Had a claim recently and the assessor was asking all sorts of leading questions to find out if I was using the bike for the insured purposes sdp etc etc and If I'd given anything away, they would have swerved it for sure! Never trust insurance companies
Ok, called them and let them know. They confirmed that it wont affect the policy until renewal time which is ace as i only just renewed it 3 weeks ago! Glad i called - its a load off my mind.
imagine if they'd not paid out after getting your bike nicked last time, #totallyguttedandshafted best to tell them, no point paying for your insurance otherwise
^^ I know - its a nightmare. I wish the government or DVLA etc. would offer the most basic of insurance which means you are legal to ride on the roads. Even 3rd party now is pointless as its 90% as expensive as fully comp. I think in Oz, you get a basic legal insurance with you number plates. Any other protection is up to you. Really good idea and would bring premiums crashing down. I dont even bother calling them if i have a crash or whatever unless the bill is over £3k. they are all VAMPIRES!
Gosh! I've never seen him quite so cross. He's right though. The only possible reason for them to punish him linger than the law of the land deems adequate is pure profiteering. If DVLA no longer consider him a threat it should be sufficient for them. Bastards. See, now I'm doing it!
