New short series on the BBC detailing the quest of British engineers and enthusiasts to build and race their machines at the Bonneville Salt flats. As always, excellently produced by the BBC, and a must watch for anyone interested in incredible 'shed at the end of the garden' engineering and things that go fast! Brilliant watch. Available on iplayer.
Quality - i'll have a look for that! love the film the fastest indian... always watch it when it's on.
What a great program, true british garden shed built bike brilliance. Can't wait for part two. The guy at the end had me in stitches, drilling pilot holes in his leathers so he could use lock wire to secure his zips, crazy.
What a fantastic watch had a tear in my eye when they started up the bike for the first time in 18 years in front of the parents of the lad who died .
it was a good watch bring on sunday. just down to earth people. i have a mate just like them rebuilt a honda super dream in is bedroom then road it down the stairs and out the front door
Just watched this. Great show looking forward to the next one. Lots of good moments but love the US Scrutineer meets British Humour Scrutineer - "Congratulations you've passed, can't wait to see you go" Brit - "But I've only just arrived" Scrutineer - puzzled look That bloke PJ. I Know him from 20+ years ago. I can remember him having a 'discussion' with a bloke outside the pub over what handled better, PJ's ZXR 750 (would have been almost new at the time) or this blokes '60's Triumph Bonneville. The bloke wasn't having so PJ offered to take him out on the back. 15 minutes later the next thing we see is PJ screaming down the high street with 3 cop cars in tow. He dumps the bloke off the back at the pub and then crosses a foot bridge and up the tow path along the river. Nutter. I'm quite surprised to discover he's still alive.
Have now watched the 1st part and am looking forward to part two on sunday.Must be really nice to be as good at engineering as some of those guys
Missed part 1 and just clocked part 2. Most enjoyable. Funny, every tune they picked for the soundtrack is on my shelf here, except for Guns and Roses. I can't stand Guns and Roses.
Was good wasn't it, disappointing , but ultimately inspiring. Makes me want to build up all my spare Blade bits and go sprinting again!
As I was watching it I wondered how much of a logical jump was it between what you used to build for the drag strip and a run such as those bikes Megs.
It's a whole different ball game Ken. My bike was ready to seize up at the end of a 1/4 mile run! Those guys are doing 5 miles, with 2 miles at full speed. Takes a lot of know how to maintain those speeds and break records. I've arranged to meet PJ, with the GSX1100ET, for a chat about old GSXs and Pendine.
Just watched part 2 of this and a fantastic watch ,had to laugh near the start when pj was talking in his man cave,in the back ground he had a darts board in the centre of a motorbike tyre .True Petrol head.
