Never rusted Gumtree myself..even having potential buyers coming to the door is worrying! http://www.standard.co.uk/news/lond...rs-of-using-classified-websites-10412674.html
Could of just as easily happened on eBay, auto trader, free adds Sounds like they are making a one off incident a really big deal. Don't get me wrong what happened to the poor bloke is awful but can't blame gumtree
Possibly, but using eBay you have feedback to go by, not much but still something. Gumtree has no safe guards in place at all however owned by eBay.
I had my blade on Gumtree. Had a couple of genuine enquiries but way too many scammers to make it even worthy of future consideration. Deleted my ad and closed my account. Maybe not the fault of Gumtree but never again.

That's not Gumtree's fault. Gumtree is the WWW equivalent of sticking a card up on the for sale board in your local supermarket... perfectly fine if you live in a nice town and are selling an old sideboard for £15....... totally different kettle of fish of you live in a dodgy neighbourhood and are selling an iPhone for £250!!!
I have purchased and sold plenty of things on gumtree and have never had any problems at all, I have sold £1500 carp fishing sets and purchased PS4, Xbox One etc from gumtree and all the people i have dealt with have been nice genuine people. I think there might have been allot more to this story but obviously something serious has happened and it is very sad but i bet worse things have happened on ebay and other selling platforms they just haven't reached the headlines that particular week.
