Has anyone swapped their standard bars for Woodcraft clip ons? My 2007 blade came with woodcraft clip ons and was wondering how different they are from standard? Position isnt too bad, but right hand goes a little numb from time to time! It did that on the 600rr i had so maybe its just me. If the woodcraft were noticeably lower than stock i might return back to them Anyone changed to different bars and experienced a better position for the road? Cheers
I find I just get used to the position of the bars on different bikes. Important to keep your weight off them though, which will also help avoid tingling, numbness, etc, as well as unwanted steering inputs and tankslappers. Also make sure your levers are adjusted properly (ie, no wrist twisting to reach them).
Good point about the levers, will check but don't think i have to stretch. Just a case of getting used to the bar angle i guess. Other option is something like helibars but they want nearly £300 - think i'll stick with the numbness!
Well numbness was getting to me, so after some head scratching had a think. Problem was angle wrist was at whilst holding throttle open. So thought why not move the position of the twist grip so that the angle of wrist wasn't so acute. Was just about to drill another lug hole when brain kicked in - Dohhhhhh. Clipons, clamp bolt, undo and twist! Job done have been out three times now for long runs and perfick! No numbness any more - if only all problems were this easy to fix!
As standerd the blade has high rise bars to make road riding more comfortable. I put race clip ons on my 600rr and they where alot lower. I ended up putting the standard high rise bars back on as it was alot less work on my wrists.
I put Heli bars on my 06. Not much difference but enough to make it a bit more comfy. Can do 600 mile days now. Depends on what riding you do i guess. Out for a couple of hours at a time then i would probably just get used to it.
Heli bars are hellishly expensive! tried to buy a set for my 600rr but had so much hassle as they'd been discontinued. Did 380 miles on the bike yesterday and it was OK. No numb hands. Got 500 miles a day to do in a months time, so hopefully will hold out! Had thought about putting standard back on (just need to buy some)
if you look at other mikes they all have pretty low bars. Honda are the only super-bikes that put the high risers on standard. I found a good article in an MCN review explaining that they raised the bars to improve comfort whilst still retaining a race position . You can pick them up cheap on ebay and your expensive clip on's should sell for enough to cover the cost and put some cash in your back pocket
High risers as standard? Maybe I've misunderstood, but my 08's clip-on's are in the normal place under the top yoke. Older Blade's had that arrangement, but I think it stopped quite a while back, maybe 04?
Yeah they clip on under the top yoke but the standerd clip ons are not inline with the bracket as race clip ons are. The standerd bars rise up about an inch putting the actual bars in line with the yokes. the bars on race clip ons pretty much go straight down from the clamp making your hand position alot lower.
