As I bought my 2010 blade second hand I only noticed recently that both rear indicators have a black sticky tape around their base. I have remove the tape from one of them and found the reason - the base and the body don't fit very well together and there's this unsightly wedge-like gap between them. I went to a bike show today and had a chance to look at about 7 blades and indeed some of them having this fugly wedgy gap on the indicators! Can someone confirm they have the same problem? I need to finish my tail tidy installation and am thinking of getting some aftermarket indicators because of the above problem and also to get a bit longer wires with them. Any tips for good quality aftermarket indicators?
Yep, had that on all my hondas, it's the prick who parks next to you and commences to bash/kick your pride and joy as he dismounts his rusty piece of sh..
Having disassembled the indicator yesterday it is now clear that the gap is a consequence of a design fault on Honda's part - there should be 2 screws holding the flexible base to the rigid body as the one screw engaged with plastic cannot resist the bending moments the indicators are sometimes subjected to. Instead of flexing around the flexible base the indicator flexes around the screw resulting in bent screw and damaged plastic and the fugly wedge gap. I will most probably ditch the standard indicators for some aftermarket ones even though I quite like the styling of the standard ones. The aftermarket units will most certainly have longer wires and should therefore be better for installation to a tail tidy.
Nothing wrong with the design IMO it makes them more resistant to damage. When they take a knock they just pop out like yours have done, then you pop them back in. Can't say I've noticed any bent screws yet (I've probably had this scenario on about 5 different indicators to date).
My left one is like that... Does not POP back in though.... It just stays there bent and sad... But it still works fine!!
