Hi all, I've got a double bubble screen that had an anodised trim. The trim is now off but has left the glue. How can I get it off without marking the screen , is there a solvent that will get it off Petrol, paraffin, white spirit ?
It's still all gooy Thought paraffin might do the job but not sure if it will cloud the screen - where would I get alcohol wipes from ? A chemist ??
Should do, isopropanol is my weapon of choice for anything like this as its pure alcohol and has no residue. I'd still test it first mind.
hair dryer to soften it up,then furniture polish.really is awesome at removing tar/oil spots+any sticky stuff residue. white spirit etc will also work(as will petrol or deisel) but theres a chance it will react witht the plastic so to be safe use polish.
if it fails, get a nice new trim for the bad boy, of all the trims ive used the black rubber one looks best.
I used to work with perchlorethylene and kept a bottle of it around for its solvency efficiency. I once did an engine flush and took the sump pan off to give it a really good wipe over. I decided to use the perc and poured it into the pan, grabbed a cloth and started rubbing. It came up really clean. Confusingly clean in fact until I saw all the dissolved paint from the underside in the cloth. 10 years of heat and road rash had done nothing but pit the surface, but a rub down with dry cleaning fluid had reduced it to bare metal in seconds. And now I never buy dry clean only clothes.
All the major car care companies ie. autoglym and such all make tar and glue remover. Does what it says on the tin.
